Chepstow & Newcastle Racing Tips - GG Lucky 15 Best Bets for Tuesday 27 January

Four meetings take place on a relatively quiet Tuesday, with three jumps meetings and a single all-weather card at Wolverhampton.

Our lucky 15 tips come from the jumps cards in Great Britain though, as our tipster Joe Napier has four best bets across Chepstow and Newcastle.

Chepstow Racing Tips (Tuesday 27 January 2026)

Chepstow hosts its first meeting since the Welsh Grand National card in December, as we pick out two best bets during the afternoon in Wales.

1.30 Chepstow – Thewoodcorner (1pt win – 4/1)

He is ultimately flat-bred, but Thewoodcorner made a promising start in a competitive juvenile event at Sandown in December and looks to possess a fair amount of stamina given how he stayed on that day. The son of The Grey Gatsby won a 2m flat contest in France last March and made his British debut after 250 days off, likely needing the run given his debut on the French flat saw him finish in mid-division. He saw off that race well though despite some less than fluent jumping and is a strong contender to improve for that run for Nicky Henderson in an easier race.

2.02 Chepstow – High Tea (1pt win – 4/1)

High Tea had some promising point-to-point form before embarking on his rules career for Kim Bailey & Mat Nicholls and has improved with every start for his new trainers. After three decent efforts in maiden and novice contests, he won on his handicap debut on soft ground over course and distance and looked a real threat to win again upped 8lb at Ludlow. He fell at the second last, in a race in which West To The Bridge came second, but looked the bigger danger to the winner than the eventual runner-up. He is up another 5lb which is slightly harsh, but he is progressive over obstacles and returns to the site of his first career success.

Newcastle Racing Tips (Tuesday 27 January 2026)

Newcastle’s is the first meeting off on Saturday, hosting seven races in which we have two top tips to follow.

1.50 Newcastle – Double Digits (1pt win – 9/1)

Pony Soprano is easing down the handicap while Spadestep is proving frustrating despite surely being better than his efforts so far. However, both may run into a well-handicapped rival here in Double Digits, a two-time winner over hurdles who ran a promising race on his chase debut at Sedgefield on Boxing Day. The eight-year-old loomed into contention before fading late on behind an all-the-way winner who finished third in the novices’ handicap chase at Cheltenham at the weekend. He is down 2lb to a mark of 110 now though, which looks generous given he won a novice hurdle under a penalty, while he had winning point-to-point form in decent company, so should work things out over fences, with the drop back to just over 2m likely a positive at this stage.

13:50 High Gosforth Park Golf Club Novices’ Handicap Chase (Go North Forgive ‘N Forget Qualifier) (GBB)

3.35 Newcastle – Rattling Road (1pt win – 12/1)

Some rain mid-afternoon could turn conditions against him, but the ground is likely to contain some “good” in the description at Newcastle to benefit Rattling Road. For Lucinda Russell & Michael Scudamore, he won twice over fences last season, one of which did come on soft, although he was a good ground winning pointer with his other win coming on good-to-soft last term. Having almost won off a mark of 118 over 2m4f at Newcastle last term, he reached a peak rating of 120 when third at Perth last spring, though has been poor on both starts this term. He would have needed the first of those, while 3m on soft at Carlisle at the end of November may have been too stern a stamina test. In that time, the handicapper has been generous, dropping him to a mark of 115, 4lb above his last winning mark, while wind surgery could easily have sorted any issues after the Carlisle race. As a point winner, he should still have potential to stay 3m on quicker ground and this looks winnable based on his opposition.
