Chepstow Racing Tips (Thursday 2 April 2026)
Seven races begin at Chepstow at 2pm on Thursday, but you have to wait until the 3.32pm contest for Andrew’s best bet on the card.
3.32 Chepstow – Ben Solo (1pt win – 7/2 bet365, 3/1 generally)
Ben Solo, usually a front-runner, lined up well behind the leaders under Brian Hughes when 33-1 for the Jack Richards Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham festival last month, hit the third fence and was tailed off when pulled up before two out. That race was dominated by early pace, with the first four finishers described by the Racing Post as “led narrowly, headed and pressed leader 3rd, led again 10th”, “prominent on outer, led narrowly 3rd”, “prominent on outer, pressed leader 3rd” and “in touch with leaders on inner” and I’m expecting plenty of the hold-up horses to bounce back in the next few weeks. The Rebecca Curtis-trained seven-year-old will be happier back at Chepstow where his record reads 12512U (2-6) and will also appreciate the small field. The first-time tongue-tie could also aid his cause, as his trainer is 22 from 83 (26.5% strike-rate) with this headgear for a profit of £51.47 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 12.85, A/E = 1.71).
Southwell Racing Tips (Thursday 2 April 2026)
It’s a 5.10pm start at Southwell on the all-weather. Andrew Mount looks at the second race on the card at 5.48pm for his best bet.
5.48 Southwell – Musical Touch (1pt win – 9/2 bet365, 4/1 generally)
Musical Touch went into my tracker after his best-of-the-closers third in the Class 2 Silver Sprint Trophy Handicap at Pontefract last July and he did well to finish a close fourth from a poor draw at Yarmouth next time. The Richard Fahey-trained gelding disappointed in his two subsequent 2025 outings but has a fine record when fresh and looks interesting in this Class 4 contest. The son of Mehmas needed the experience on his racecourse debut but his subsequent fresh runs (after a break of at least 50 days) have produced form figures of 311 (2-3), with the sole defeat by just three-quarters of a length in a Doncaster maiden. His two previous runs in all-weather handicaps resulted in a 6f Wolverhampton win after a 97-day break and a second of 14 at Chelmsford (16-day break) where he emerged best of those to come from off the pace.
