Chester & Kelso Racing Tips - GG Lucky 15 Tips for Wednesday 6 May

Chester’s May meeting arrives on Wednesday. The Roodee is one of the most idiosyncratic tracks in racing, with its tight-turning nature one of the most challenging courses in the UK.

GG tipster Joe Napier picks our lucky 15 tips for Wednesday. Three run at Chester, with a single selection from Kelso.

Chester Racing Tips (Wednesday 6 May)

The first card of Chester’s three-day meeting takes place on Wednesday. We have three tips in the opening trio of races to get off to a hot start.

1.30 Chester – Final Appeal (1pt win – 3/1)

Four of the last six winners of the Lily Agnes Conditions Stakes had raced multiple times already. Taking the three runners in this eight-strong field that applies to, Final Appeal rates highest. Adonius carries a two-time winner’s penalty, whereas the selection was beaten on debut. He only lost by a neck though and put that experience swiftly to use at Wolverhampton, winning by three lengths from a runner-up who finished closer in a valuable novice event at Newmarket next time out. He beat the third that day by eight lengths more than he had first time out at Nottingham. It is positive to have showed improvement from his first start to the second. Similarly he ran well on debut, so should prove just as adept back on turf here. Stall 4 is a good enough draw and he should be able to stealthily track the pace before pouncing.

2.05 Chester – Partisan Hero (1pt win – 13/2)

Partisan Hero bumped into a well-treated course specialist in this 12 months ago. The six-year-old is 12lb higher in the weights a year on, but has continued to improve since. He arrived in tremendously consistent form in 2025 and continued that both in this race and afterwards. Having finished second to Two Tempting here, he then won at Epsom, finished second at Pontefract, and had won again at Epsom before the end of the season. His efforts in Bahrain this winter offer hope he may have trained on again still. David Loughnane’s charge should get a good start from stall 1 and be able to control the tempo. Having run well on the Roodee already is another boost to his chances.

2.35 Chester – Amelia Earhart (1pt win – 11/4)

I’m The One made a superb start to her racing career at Newbury three weeks ago. The Gosden yard won this in 2017 and 2019, the former with Enable, but the Cheshire Oaks has returned to Aidan O’Brien in six of the last ten renewals. A tongue tie and blinkers go on Amelia Earhart, but she also has the benefit of stepping up to a suitable distance here. The daughter of Camelot was consistent as a juvenile, placing on her first three starts. She was then fourth upped to Group 3 company when soft ground potentially went against her. All of her other races have come on better ground, including when she romped home by seven lengths at Leopardstown in October. That was a belated first success after five runs. However, it was also on her first start upped to 1m. She is a sister to Cleveland, who won the Chester Cup over 2m2f, so her stamina reserves should be plentiful. Ryan Moore rides this track better than anyone else and may be able to utilise her strengths to great effect.

Kelso Racing Tips (Wednesday 6 May)

Eight races take place north of the border at Kelso on Wednesday. Our tip at the track runs in race six.

4.32 Kelso – Flash Du Pistolet (1pt win – )

A good run at Hexham last time out can be the platform for Flash Du Pistolet’s next success. The eight-year-old won convincingly over track and trip in March 2025. That was his second win in a row after getting off the mark at Newcastle earlier that month. He may have paid for too much racing when pulling up back up to 2m4f at this track next time out. For most of this season, he paid for winning so easily here as his handicap mark had gone up 9lb. Since January though, he fell 7lb back down the handicap, only to nearly renew acquaintances with the winners’ enclosure last time out. That was his first run this year under seemingly his conditions (2m good ground). He gets his ground and distance here, which should ensure a big run.
