York remains in focus for one more card on Saturday. The Ebor meeting draws to a close, with the Group 1 City Of York Stakes supporting the Ebor Handicap itself.

Chester Racing Tips (Saturday 22 August 2026)
There is racing live on ITV on Saturday from Chester. Andrew has two selections at the track, both of whom are course specialists.
2.05 Chester – Yanifer (1pt win – 8/1 generally)
Yanifer won this 7.5f Class 2 handicap 12 months ago and looks to have been laid out for a repeat bid. Harriet Bethell’s eight-year-old tends to reserve his best for Bath, Catterick and Chester, with a combined record at the three venues of 11821315771 (5-11) for a profit of £23.63 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected wins = 1.51, A/E = 3.32). Another interpretation of his form is to only consider his runs from June onwards and after a recent outing (28 days or sooner) – he’s won eight from 21 under these conditions for a profit of £25.00 (expected wins = 3.78, A/E = 2.12). He qualifies on both counts today and is 4lb lower than for last year’s win.
5.00 Chester – Roman Dragon (1pt e/w – 11/2 bet365, four places)
Roman Dragon has his ideal conditions – namely Chester, a drawn in stall 6 or lower and a sprint race (5f-6f). His record in these circumstances stands at 5112144122143111 (8-16) for a profit of £35.99 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£48.74 at Betfair SP after 2% commission, expected wins = 3.3, A/E = 2.37). Hugo Palmer’s seven-year-old was only sixth here on his latest outing but that was over 7f and he simply didn’t stay the trip. Indeed, his last three course runs have come over 7f and he’s back down to a mark of 95, the mark he won off in a 5f handicap at the May meeting here when tipped in this column. I’ve saved on Rosenpur.
York Racing Tips (Saturday 22 August 2026)
York’s meeting includes the Group 1 City Of York Stakes, in which Andrew has an 18/s selection.
3.00 York – Paborus (1pt win – 18/1 Ladbrokes, 16/1 generally)
Paborus returned from a year off the track to land the Group 3 Chipchase Stakes (15-2) at Newcastle in late journey and is worth a bet to follow up despite the step up in class and the wide draw. Ed Bethell’s lightly raced five-year-old now has form figures after a break of at least 50 days of 171131 (4-6), with the seventh place on account of not staying the 1m trip in a big-field heritage handicap at York and the third place in the last year’s Criterion Stakes, also at York, when doing second best of the closers. He’s been rested for eight weeks and the return to 7f looks ideal.
Newmarket Racing Tips (Saturday 22 August 2026)

3.19 Newmarket – Quinault (1pt win – 10/1 bet365, Paddy Power)
Quinault will appreciate the drop to Listed level after contesting the Group 1 July Cup over course and distance on his latest assignment. Stuart Williams’ six-year-old finished last of the 11 runners that day but was a 66-1 shot and was poorly drawn on the near side in stall 3. The other run who raced on his side of the track – tenth-placed Big Mojo (stall 2) – scored in Group 3 company at the Curragh next time and Quinault was only a length and a half behind that one. Stall 1 runner Division was switched more towards the centre before finishing fifth and he too franked the form for those drawn low when going down narrowly in second in the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville next time. Quinault’s last five wins have come in fields of eight or fewer runners and he faces just six rivals today.
