Warwick still needs to pass a morning inspection before racing goes ahead at the Midlands venue on Saturday, but racegoers will be hopeful of the thumbs up, as the 2026 edition of the Classic Chase is slated to take place.
The feature race of the year at Warwick has attracted some notable names this year and GG tipster Joe Napier fancies a 6/1 chance, as we provide all of the key info, trends and more below.
2026 Classic Chase Runners
Eight will go to post should Warwick race on Saturday as Torn And Frayed has already been declared a non-runner. Former Cheltenham Gold Cup fourth L’Homme Presse is now a veteran at the age of 11, but is still capable of useful form, as shown when second at Cheltenham last time off this mark. He looked ready to tackle a marathon trip for the first time that day, while all of Mr Vango, Nassalam and Resplendent Grey are proven over such distances, with each of the three winners of big contests at this 3m5f trip or further. Val Dancer has also won over this trip in the 2024 Welsh National, though is one of three runners out of the handicap along with Destroytheevidence and Joyeux Machin. Myretown is the potential springer in the race though, having won so impressively at the Cheltenham Festival last season, but needs to prove his wellbeing after a fall in the Coral Gold Cup.

Classic Chase Trends
We have looked at five key trends which point towards successful horses in the Classic Chase below, with this contest not necessarily being one for favourites…
- Only one of the last ten favourites has been successful
- Three of the last ten winners have been aged 10 or above
- Female trainers have won six of the last 12 renewals
- No top-weight has been successful since 2012
- Four of the last nine winners have been priced at 10/1 or higher
Classic Chase Tips
Myretown has fallen on two of his last four starts, but given connections still feel he is capable of a Gold Cup tilt in march, has to be respected off a mark of 142 with a clear round. A Gold Cup entry was also given to Resplendent Grey though and it is Olly Murphy’s charge backed to return to form here. He won the bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown over this trip last season and was a game winner on return over a trip too short for him at Carlisle from a very useful yardstick. He can be forgiven a lesser effort in the Coral Gold Cup after being inconvenienced by the standing start.
