16:37 – Botanica International Maiden Hurdle

Race Details: 2m 3f | | Going: Chase course – YIELDING TO SOFT; Hurdle course – YIELDING, Yielding to soft in places | | jumps

This looks a maiden in name only because the front end of the market is headed by two horses who have already shown a fair bit. Arcadian Emperor sets the standard on figures after finishing runner-up on his last two starts and, from a Willie Mullins yard that rarely wastes bullets in races like this, he is the obvious one. Speculateur brings a very solid, if slightly frustrating, string of placed efforts for Gordon Elliott and should give his running again, while Hi Ho Idaho made a promising start over hurdles and has the profile of one who could improve plenty for that experience. Behind those, it gets murkier in a 19-runner field, with a few unexposed types like Darby Hill and Lamikal D’Airy adding some intrigue. Strong at the top, messy underneath.

Top Selections

1. Arcadian Emperor – 8/11 with Bet365

Jockey: Mark Walsh | Trainer: W P Mullins | Form: 422 | Rating: 141 | Topspeed: 108

He has the clearest piece of form in the race and, frankly, this looks a very fair opportunity to get off the mark. The 422 profile says he has been knocking loudly at the door, and a mark of 141 puts him comfortably clear of most of these on known evidence. Mark Walsh is a notably eye-catching booking and Mullins runners in Irish maiden hurdles are never easily dismissed, especially when they have already shown this level of consistency. At around 8/11 he is no secret, but short prices can still be the right prices, and he is hard to oppose if reproducing his recent level. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Hi Ho Idaho – 8/1 with Betfair

Jockey: Jordan Gainford | Trainer: Cian Collins | Form: 3 | Rating: 116 | Topspeed: 106

If you want to play against the obvious pair for an each-way angle, Hi Ho Idaho makes plenty of appeal. He shaped nicely when third on his hurdling debut, and the Topspeed figure of 106 suggests there was more substance to that effort than a bare maiden placing. This longer trip could easily suit, and in a race where plenty have shown very little, he stands out as a progressive sort rather than an exposed one. Jordan Gainford is a positive jockey booking for a horse who should travel and jump well enough to hold a position. At 8/1, he looks the sensible each-way punt in a race that may thin out quickly behind the favourite. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Arcadian Emperor is the straight win play and the one with the fewest questions to answer. For those wanting a bit more juice, Hi Ho Idaho appeals as the each-way option at 8/1 in a big field with three places on offer. Speculateur is the obvious danger on solid placed form, while Darby Hill is one of the less exposed outsiders worth noting.

17:12 – Drangan Novice Handicap Hurdle

Race Details: 2m 3f | | Going: Chase course – YIELDING TO SOFT; Hurdle course – YIELDING, Yielding to soft in places | | jumps

This is a fair little novice handicap hurdle rather than a deep one, and it doesn’t look especially hard to narrow down. Tangara Bay arrives here off the back of a win and is the obvious starting point for Henry De Bromhead, while King Gris is the lurking danger now dropped to a handy racing weight for Gordon Elliott and Jack Kennedy. Paradise Lost has been edging his way into form and looks the sort to keep finding, while Former Flame is interesting if building on that recent second. At the other end, a few of these have had their chances, with The Guinness Boys particularly hard to trust. In a field of 11, the market should have this about right, but there still looks to be a workable each-way angle against the favourite.

Top Selections

1. Tangara Bay – 9/4 with Bet365

Jockey: Darragh O’keeffe | Trainer: Henry De Bromhead | Form: 24-451 | Rating: 112 | Topspeed: 88

She makes plenty of appeal after getting off the mark last time and, just as importantly, she’s been running like a mare getting the hang of things for a while now. The progression in the form figures is plain enough, and a mark of 112 still looks workable if that latest effort has brought her on again. De Bromhead’s novice hurdlers tend to hold their form once they click, and Darragh O’Keeffe is a solid booking in this sort of race. At 9/4 she isn’t screaming value, but she’s the one with the clearest upward profile and the most persuasive recent piece of form. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Paradise Lost – 15/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Gavin Brouder | Trainer: Charles O’Brien | Form: 98-753 | Rating: 113 | Topspeed: 78

Paradise Lost is not bombproof, but he has started to come to the boil and his latest third suggested this trip and test are beginning to suit him much better. He’s not thrown in off 113, though he does look capable of getting involved if the race turns into a proper grind up the Clonmel hill. The market has him at 15/2, which feels fair in a race where several rivals have more questions than answers. Gavin Brouder knows how to deliver one late around here and this fellow looks the type to pick off beaten horses and maybe more if the pace collapses. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Tangara Bay is the win play because she brings the best recent form and still looks capable of improving beyond this mark. Paradise Lost is the each-way punt in a race lacking depth behind the favourite and should be staying on when it matters. King Gris is the obvious danger off a light weight, while Former Flame is another worth a second glance if the market speaks in his favour.

17:42 – Killusty Handicap Hurdle

Race Details: 2m 7f | | Going: Chase course – YIELDING TO SOFT; Hurdle course – YIELDING, Yielding to soft in places | | jumps

This is a proper staying handicap hurdle with plenty in with a squeak, but it doesn’t look an especially deep one for the grade and that should encourage a few of the more lightly raced types. Rusty Harkness arrives on the back of a solid sequence and is the obvious one near the head of the market, while Ishan has crept into calculations off a handy weight and looks the percentage call. Forceonmyown and Midnight Our Fred are also easy to make cases for, though neither is bombproof, and Rhythmic Tune is lurking lower down with a dangerous racing weight. In truth, it has the look of a race where stamina and clean jumping will matter more than a turn of foot, and that usually pays to side with the more reliable profiles.

Top Selections

1. Ishan – 5/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Phillip Enright | Trainer: S Curling | Form: 608-35 | Rating: 116 | Topspeed: 99

Ishan makes plenty of appeal here from a workable mark of 116, especially with just 155lb to carry in a race where a few of the principals are lumping much bigger weights. His last two runs suggest he is coming to the boil again, and that latest fifth reads better than it looks if you forgive him not quite seeing it out as strongly as ideal. This longer trip could unlock a bit more, and Phillip Enright is the kind of rider you want in a race likely to become a grind from some way out. Available at 5/1, he looks solid rather than flashy, which is often exactly what you want in this sort of contest. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Rhythmic Tune – 17/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Daniel King | Trainer: M A Molloy | Form: 370318 | Rating: 116 | Topspeed: 103

Rhythmic Tune is the each-way angle at a fair price because he brings enough recent substance to the table and is very attractively treated on the weights with only 150lb. He did win two starts back, so there is a bit of current spark there, and that topspeed figure of 103 says he has the engine to play a major hand if this turns into a proper test. The latest run was less convincing, but I’m inclined to forgive one below-par effort in a race full of unreliable stayers. Daniel King knows how to get one into a rhythm from the front half of the field, and 17/2 looks big enough to support him for the places with upside to do better. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Ishan is the win play because he looks fairly handicapped, arrives in decent nick and should appreciate this stamina test. Rhythmic Tune is the each-way punt with four places on offer, as his low weight and recent winning form give him a strong chance of being involved. Rusty Harkness is the obvious danger, while Midnight Our Fred is another to keep onside in forecasts.

18:12 – Botanica International Handicap Hurdle

Race Details: 2m | | Going: Chase course – YIELDING TO SOFT; Hurdle course – YIELDING, Yielding to soft in places | | jumps

This is a proper Clonmel handicap puzzle with 19 runners, plenty arriving with patchy profiles and not many you could call bombproof. No Big Deal has the classiest recent bits of form on figures and his topspeed mark stands out in a race where several have been struggling badly. Cock And Bull heads the market for Emmet Mullins and is the type to do better in handicaps, while Old Kenmare has been popular in early fancies despite a low-key latest run. At the other end, Added Bonus is dangerously well treated for one who still hinted at life last time. Over a sharp 2m on this ground, a clean round and a bit of tactical speed should matter more than outright stamina, and it looks the sort of race where being well handicapped can trump consistency.

Top Selections

1. No Big Deal – 4/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Mark Walsh | Trainer: Charles O’Brien | Form: 321409 | Rating: 101 | Topspeed: 98

He is hardly arriving off a perfect prep, but there is enough in his profile to make him the one to beat in a race full of doubts. The earlier 3-2-1 sequence reads well in this company and that 98 topspeed figure is a serious number for a modest handicap like this. The latest ninth is easy enough to forgive if you take the view that he simply didn’t fire rather than regressed. Mark Walsh is an eye-catching booking and, from a mark of 101, he looks capable of winning this if bouncing back to the level of his better winter efforts. Available at 4/1, he makes plenty of appeal as the solid option.

Bet: WIN

2. Added Bonus – 9/1 with Paddy Power

Jockey: Sean O’Keeffe | Trainer: Brendan Maurice Walsh | Form: 859604 | Rating: 101 | Topspeed: 52

There is obvious risk attached to a 12-year-old, but this veteran is sliding to a very workable racing weight and his latest fourth was one of the more encouraging pieces of recent form on offer among the outsiders. He carries just 140 and that can make a major difference around here if Sean O’Keeffe can keep him in a rhythm. He is not one to trust blindly, but this is not a deep race and he doesn’t need to improve much to hit the frame. At 9/1, he looks the each-way play in a race where plenty of rivals have been taking turns to disappoint.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

No Big Deal is the win play because he has the strongest recent figures and the best piece of speed form in the field. Added Bonus is the each-way punt at a fair price with five places on offer and a feather weight helping his cause. Cock And Bull is the obvious danger if Emmet Mullins has found the key, while Old Kenmare is respected despite needing to rebound.

18:42 – Fethard Beginners Chase

Race Details: 1m 7f | | Going: Chase course – YIELDING TO SOFT; Hurdle course – YIELDING, Yielding to soft in places | | jumps

This looks a fairly informative beginners’ chase rather than a deep one, with the market understandably centred on Pinot Gris, Son Of Anarchy and Royal Hollow. Pinot Gris brings the best published rating into the race, but his last two efforts have taken the shine off him a little and he is not one to take on trust at a short price. Son Of Anarchy has been running well in stronger company over hurdles and looks the obvious type for fences, while Royal Hollow arrives with momentum after a win and a second. Behind them, Goldinthemountains is not without hope if taking to this discipline, but a few of the others need dramatic improvement. On this ground and over this sharp enough trip, accurate jumping could be the key factor more than raw class.

Top Selections

1. Son Of Anarchy – 2/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Mark Walsh | Trainer: Gordon Elliott | Form: -24138 | Rating: | Topspeed:

He makes plenty of appeal in a race where the obvious favourite has a few questions to answer. Son Of Anarchy got off the mark over hurdles earlier in the campaign and has largely kept his form together since, with that latest eighth not looking quite as bad as it does at first glance given the level he was operating at. Gordon Elliott’s runners in this sort of beginners’ chase are always worth respecting, and Mark Walsh is an eye-catching booking. He looks the type to improve for a fence in front of him, and the 2/1 on offer feels fair rather than cramped in this company. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Royal Hollow – 3/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Cian Quirke | Trainer: Andrew Slattery | Form: -20012 | Rating: | Topspeed:

Royal Hollow is the each-way angle because he comes here in the most solid recent nick of the principals. His form figures this term suggest a horse who has found his level, winning two starts ago before backing that up with a runner-up effort, and he gets in here with just 159. That alone gives him a practical edge if this turns into a proper test from flagfall. Andrew Slattery’s runner may not have the latent upside of some of these, but he is straightforward and arrives match-fit, which counts for plenty in a beginners’ chase. At 3/1 he is not exactly hidden, but he still makes each-way sense in a nine-runner field with three places.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Son Of Anarchy is the win play, as he looks the likeliest improver over fences and comes from the strongest stable in the race. Royal Hollow is the each-way option because his recent form is dependable and the 3lb lower weight could help. Pinot Gris is the obvious danger on ratings, but at the prices he looks opposable rather than irresistible.

19:12 – Botanica International Rated Novice Chase

Race Details: 2m 4f | | Going: Chase course – YIELDING TO SOFT; Hurdle course – YIELDING, Yielding to soft in places | | jumps

This is a tight little seven-runner novice chase rather than a deep one, and it looks likely to revolve around a handful with solid recent placed form. Coral River has been knocking hard on the door and sets a fair standard on recent efforts, while The Great Nudie brings consistency and should again be thereabouts if his jumping holds up under pressure. Great Universe is interesting dropping into this sort of company off a mark of 137, though age and a slightly patchy recent profile leave him with a bit to prove. Littlefoot arrives off a win and is clearly not dismissed, but this feels like a race where reliable recent chase form over this sort of trip could be decisive. It is not impossible, but it is no giveaway either.

Top Selections

1. Coral River – 9/4 with Bet365

Jockey: Donagh Meyler | Trainer: Ross O’Sullivan | Form: -70322 | Rating: 134 | Topspeed: 127

Coral River makes plenty of appeal here because he is doing very little wrong and his recent pair of second-place finishes suggest his turn is near. A mark of 134 is perfectly workable in this company and that topspeed figure of 127 stands out in a race where not many arrive with upward pressure on the assessor. He looks straightforward, stays this sort of trip, and this small field should help him travel and jump into a rhythm. Donagh Meyler can ride him positively if needed, and at 9/4 he is just about the percentage call against rivals who have either less solid recent form or a few more questions to answer. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Great Universe – 7/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Ricky Doyle | Trainer: Martin Brassil | Form: 15-FR3 | Rating: 137 | Topspeed: 128

Great Universe is the each-way angle because he is not short of ability and, on the numbers, he has a serious chance if putting it all together. His rating of 137 is the best in the field and his topspeed of 128 says he retains enough engine despite being the oldest horse in the line-up at ten. The recent third hinted that there is still a race of this nature in him, and Martin Brassil is more than capable of placing one to good effect. He does come with risks after a mixed spell, but in a seven-runner race he looks the one most likely to outrun his price if the principals underperform. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Coral River is the win play because his recent profile is the cleanest and he looks the most likely to run his race. Great Universe is the each-way punt at 7/1 in a race lacking depth behind the front pair in the market. The Great Nudie is the obvious danger after a string of solid efforts, while Littlefoot is respected after getting back on track last time.

19:42 – Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares INH Flat Race

Race Details: 2m 3f | | Going: Chase course – YIELDING TO SOFT; Hurdle course – YIELDING, Yielding to soft in places | | jumps

This looks a fairly informative mares’ bumper rather than a deep one, and the shape of it is obvious enough. Luciole Des Bordes sets the standard on what she has already shown, with her 5-22 profile, the best rating in the line-up and the strongest topspeed figure too. She is the one they all have to beat. Gortnaclea Castle appeals as the most solid danger after a promising debut second, while Thelittleballerina and Tutu Twist also come here with enough early promise to suggest there is more to come. The rest need sizeable steps forward or are starting from scratch, including Giorgia Rose and the 4yo On A Diamond. In truth, this revolves around whether Luciole Des Bordes is as straightforward as her form suggests, because if she is, she holds strong claims.

Top Selections

1. Luciole Des Bordes – 1/1 with Paddy Power

Jockey: Miss J Townend | Trainer: W P Mullins | Form: 5-22 | Rating: 113 | Topspeed: 75

She is no secret, but sometimes the obvious answer is still the right one. Luciole Des Bordes has already put together the best body of bumper form in this field, and her figures back that up with a 113 rating and a clear edge on topspeed. Two runner-up efforts after her debut suggest she is knocking loudly on the door, and this 2m3f on yielding ground should be right in her lane. Willie Mullins does not need much selling in this sphere and Miss J Townend is an eye-catching booking. At even money she is hardly a giveaway, but she is hard to oppose in this company. Bet: WIN

2. Gortnaclea Castle – 3/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Mr A T Feeney | Trainer: M O Quigley | Form: 2 | Rating: 108 | Topspeed: 52

If you want to take on the favourite from an each-way angle, Gortnaclea Castle makes the most appeal. She shaped well when second on debut, which is often the right starting point in these mares’ bumpers, and that opening mark of 108 gives her a realistic platform to build from. There should be natural improvement forthcoming from first run to second, and this looks the type of race where a straightforward, race-fit mare can pick off a few less streetwise rivals. The 3/1 with Bet365 is not huge, but in an eight-runner field with three places on offer she still makes plenty of each-way sense. Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Keep it simple. Luciole Des Bordes is the win play because she brings the standout form and sets a clear standard. For an each-way punt, Gortnaclea Castle looks the safest alternative given her solid debut second and likely progress. Thelittleballerina and Tutu Twist are the obvious dangers if stepping forward, but the market has probably got this race about right.
