Coral-Eclipse Tips, Odds, Racecard & Trends 2026:

One of the biggest races on the flat racing calendar, the Coral-Eclipse takes place at Sandown Park on 3.35pm on Saturday 4th July. We see the Classic generation do battle with their elders in the 1m 1f 209y contest, as they attempt to etch their name on the illustrious roll of honour.

Steve Chambers takes a look at the runners for the 2026 Coral-Eclipse, as well as the trends and odds for the Group 1 showpiece. He then picks out his top three for what should be a sensational renewal.

Aidan O’Brien bids for a record-extending tenth win in the Coral-Eclipse this weekend and he will saddle the red-hot favourite Constitution River. The three-year-old defied an awful draw to storm to glory in the French Derby last time out and the son of Wootton Bassett is fancied to down his rivals here. A clear winner at Chester, the Ballydoyle colt looks like he could be the best three-year-old around this season and is the one to beat.

Second behind Constitution River in the Prix du Jockey Club, Hawk Mountain is the second shot fired by the O’Brien gun. A class act in his own right, he will need to improve to reverse the form with his stablemate. Flushing Meadows completes the O’Brien triumvirate, but will be used for pacemaking duties.

Beaten a neck by subsequent Prince Of Wales’s Stakes winner Ombudsman in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown, Gethin returns to go one better. The Owen Burrows-trained raider is a real top quality performer, but has to give weight away to Constitution River, which could prove to be tough.

Impressive when winning the Gordon Richards Stakes at Sandown, Saddadd failed to follow up in Group 1 company in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh. A horse on the upgrade, he will need a huge career best to down his rivals here.

Fourth in France behind Constitution River, A Boy Named Susie will line up for Donnacha O’Brien and has form to find, whilst King’s Gambit completes the line-up.

2026 Coral-Eclipse Tips

It’s hard to look past Aidan O’Brien yet again in this race. With a stunning record in the race, he will unleash another potential three-year-old star in the shape of Constitution River. Sublime at Chester back in May, he showed real quality to defy a poor draw in France to win their Derby. Now, receiving weight from a few far from proven top-class performers, the Ballydoyle raider can storm to victory. Hawk Mountain could well chase him home for an O’Brien 1-2, whilst Saddadd can claim third.
