Racing keeps a lower profile on Sunday with just two meetings on the card, but that hasn’t stopped Andrew Mount finding a couple of angles worth exploring. Take a look at his selections below.
Curragh Racing Tips (Sunday 9 August 2026)
3.25 Curragh – Big Mojo (1pt win – 6/4 generally)
With fellow British raider James’s Delight best on slower ground the way looks open for Big Mojo to regain the winning thread. Mick Appleby’s four-year-old disappointed in the Group 1 July Cup at Newmarket last time but is in calmer waters today. His two previous runs in Group 3 company produced wins at Goodwood and Ascot and his two-length eighth of 26 in this season’s Group 1 King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot suggests that the ability is still there, despite an underwhelming season thus far.
Downpatrick Racing Tips (Sunday 9 August 2026)
3.43 Downpatrick – Cobra Queen (1pt e/w – 10/1 Sky Bet, Paddy Power, 9/1 bet365, all paying first four)
Cobra Queen has been largely disappointing since landing a mares’ handicap chase at Roscommon last September, recording the following results…
4th of 5 – beaten 13 lengths (7-4)
Pulled-up (18-1)
8th of 12 – beaten by 15.5 lengths (15-2)
3rd of 16 – beaten by two lengths (18-1)
All the above runs took place against male rivals, taking her record in open company to 34840034P83 (0-11). Her latest effort, which came in first-time cheekpieces, was certainly a step back in the right direction and, with the headgear retained, she looks worth a bet now back in mares-only company. Her record against her own sex stands at F121211 (4-7) for a profit of £16.50 to a £1 level stake at SP.
