QUEEN AMINATU looks well ahead of the handicapper off this opening mark of 75 on the balance of her form, and she has been crying out for a strongly run race over this distance. She did remarkably well over an inadequate trip of 6f at Newcastle in February when held up off a sedate pace closing right to the line only to be narrowly touched off by a subsequent scorer.
When given a more prominent ride by today’s jockey Tom Marquand, her latest win at Wolves saw her run away with a contest, and she still has more to offer.

2.15 Nottingham – Speycaster – (1pt win – 9/2)
There is a handful in this typically open three-year-old contest that is likely to take a step forward, and those include Illuminated, SPEYCASTER, Mr Big Stuff and Al Qareem. All will be of some interest following the result of this race. Still, the narrow preference is for Ralph Beckett’s three-year-old, who has improved with each run and was comfortably on top at Chelmsford in November and looks sure to appreciate this step up in trip on seasonal return.
This season, he is one to keep on side for middle distance handicaps, and his attitude is very likeable. On the balance of his form, this mark of 82 could underestimate him given it feels like we haven’t even touched the surface of his ability yet. He is a major player here and has proven to go well off a short break previously.

3.35 Lingfield – Pistoletto – (1pt win – 3/1)
It could pay to take a chance on PISTOLETTO, who shaped well here over an inadequate ten furlongs in a Group 3. He had no right playing a hand in at 150/1 on his penultimate start and then found 2m stretching him at Kempton on his latst outing.
He was in good form before heading out to Saudi over the winter, including when having Protected Guest behind him at Kempton, and today’s conditions look ideal. He is relatively unexposed over this trip and could have even more to offer off this workable handicap mark now tackling this trip.
