Daryl Carter's Best Bets (Wednesday, May 18th)

Our top tipster Daryl Carter has picked out three selections for Wednesday, with all three runners coming from the big meeting at Ayr. Check out his thoughts on his three picks below, alongside Bet365‘s new customer offer of Bet £10, Get £50 In Free Bets.

Odds correct at time of publishing.

2.10 Ayr – Somewhere Secret (1pt each-way – 16/1 general)

The handicapper knows all there is to know about SOMEWHERE SECRET, but it was encouraging the way he finished off his race at Haydock on the fast ground off the back of a short break, and the return to a softer surface today should see him to better effect.

His latest run was his first on turf since scoring at Redcar in October, and this is effectively a drop in grade. His last three form figures over this trip in this grade read 16(denied a clear run)1, and he has a good effort to his name on his only visit to this track. Providing he can go the early gallop, he should be finishing strongly under ideal conditions.

3.20 Ayr – Angel Power (2pts win – 4/1 general)

I am not a huge fan of this division, but there is often value in these markets with the unexposed runner shoved to the top of them. My Astra is that horse today, and while she is respected and entitled to improve on her Kempton reappearance, the level of her form doesn’t warrant her being so short.

ANGEL POWER made a very positive return to action in a small field Listed event at Nottingham when just touched off at the death, and given she only had three starts last term, there’s good reason to think she will come on for that run.

She has clearly had some issues but looked in fine fettle 22 days ago, and having held a rating of 108 as recent as four runs ago in July last year. She is the one to beat. Her latest outing was the fastest ground she had encountered, and ease today should see her to best effect, and she could get a soft lead.

3.55 Ayr – Judgment Call (0.5pt each-way – 33/1 4 places)

A small chance is taken on JUDGEMENT CALL, who makes his second start after a wind operation and first in a handicap. He has been contesting races over 1m3 and 1m4 for which he clearly doesn’t stay – including on pedigree and today drops to 7f, which should prove far more suitable.

He was beaten seven lengths on debut by Moshaawer (98) when given plenty to do for former connections. He was gelded and was then sent off at 300/1 for a Listed race at this venue where he wasn’t disgraced in a first time tongue-tie. New connections had certainly identified a problem because he was sent for wind surgery following that run. He shaped in need of the outing here in a Maiden contest behind another useful sort in April.

The second start after a wind operation is an angle I like, but there are good reasons to think he can improve on what he has shown thus far, and he has been granted the plum draw in stall one. He is bred to be pretty useful, being a half brother to I Can Fly and Viscount Barfield. He is worth a small bet.
