Top tipster Daryl Carter continues his fine run of form and is in search of more winners on Thursday, with a trio of selections at Salisbury, plus one tip on the Haydock card.

3.55 Salisbury – Mishal Star (1pt win – 16/1 generally) + Crazy Luck (1pt win – 11/2 generally)
Two stabs here, the first is MISHAL STAR, who has been campaigned poorly, in my opinion, but she is at least in the right race today over the correct trip and back on turf. Her last start on turf was in Ireland when she ran a scorcher from an unfavoured draw down the far side of the track in a Listed contest won by Wren’s Breath, who has been disappointing in two starts since but was favoured by coming from well off the pace. Aidan O’Brien’s More Beautiful and the useful Teresa Mendoza (100) were second and third, and their stand side position favoured all.
Since then, she has run three times on the AW, including her latest seasonal return at Chelmsford, where she ran a blinder despite looking in need of the outing behind the useful Soft Whisper (106). She returns to turf today and is in a handicap for the first time since scoring at Nottingham in September 2020 off of 81. She hasn’t been beaten far by the likes of Creative Force and Happy Romance in the past, and there is certainly a win in her.
The slight concern is that she has been off for 60 days, but she is worth chancing at double-figure odds back against her own sex on turf.
CRAZY LUCK is the other to side with. She was too keen at Ascot and failed to see out the seven furlongs on the second attempt. She was a big eye-catcher when a narrow second in this race last year, and she has run well on all three occasions at Salisbury, including a Maiden victory.
She is only five pounds higher this time around, has beaten the favourite twice and should have beaten that horse at Goodwood on her penultimate start when denied a clear run finishing on the bridle.
She has some strong form over this six-furlong trip this season and must go close.
4.15 Haydock – Johan (1pt win – 6/1 generally)
JOHAN had the beating of Saleymm at Doncaster earlier this year, and he is a horse to catch when fresh with form figures of 15114. His new connections are clearly wise to this, having given him a 132-day break since running in a Group 2 at Sandown, and there are not many opportunities for him with this rating.
This conditions event looks spot on, and while he has a bit to find with the favourite Dubai Poet, he will be on that one’s quatres throughout this contest, and he is a gutsy battler.
The drop back to 7f looks a good move by connections, and he has plenty going for him today.
Today’s Racing
4.56 Salisbury – Conservative (1pt win – 10/1 generally)
A competitive race, but CONSERVATIVE has been knocking on the door, and this one could open for him. He returns to Salisbury, where he ran a blinder on his second outing behind Hannibal Barca despite racing alone on the unfavoured part of the track.
He has done little wrong since being a gelding, and he ran a mighty race at Sandown on the front end only to be picked up by a fellow improver. I liked how he ran on again at the finish once headed at Sandown, especially as I thought he was sure to be a non-stayer.
He is worth another chance at this trip dropped in grade.
