12.43 Southwell – Johnny Boom (1pt win – 11/2 William Hill, 5/1 generally)
JOHNNY BOOM finished with a flurry from off an ordinary gallop at Chelmsford last time, and he did well only to be beaten 3/4 of a length, given that track plays to the strengths of those ridden prominently. He now drops into a Confined Handicap for horses that have not won a race in 2022, and this looks like some good placing by connections considering they have only had him for four starts. His two-length defeat at Sandown in July is easily the strongest piece of form in the race. He remains relatively unexposed at this distance, and his latest improved effort could be down to the recently added cheek-pieces. Oisin McSweeney claims a further five off his back, and it only looks like a matter of time before he hits the scoresheet.
2.43 Southwell – Lednikov (2pt win – 5/2 generally)
Jacks Profit may have defied a wide draw at Kempton on his latest outing, but he got to the front and dictated a steady pace before sprinting for home under a good ride by Sean Levey. In the hope that the market has under-priced him (for which it looks that way from the tissues), then LEDNIKOV could provide a bit of value. He was caught off a slow pace here, and his rider had to switch him off the rail to challenge five wide in order to get a clear run. He showed a good attitude at the finish when pulling well clear of his rivals in a battle with a subsequent C&D winner. He has only recently been fitted with the visor, and he is relatively unexposed, while the third from his latest outing has given the form a boost, so he makes plenty of appeal in this poor Class 6 0-65.
