UGO GREGORY bounced right back to form here last time, leaving class dropper Intervention well behind and being narrowly denied by a subsequent winner favoured by being on the front end of a steady pace. The selection was significantly disadvantaged by being held up at the rear of the field and was denied a clear passage before bursting out of the pack to be denied by a neck. He did best of those off the pace and another ten yards, and he would have taken his course record to four wins. His Beverley record now reads 23148118. He clearly loves this venue and has fallen in the handicap to an almost career-low rating of 66, but he hadn’t raced at this venue since running third in a hot Class 3 contest behind I’m A Gambler last May – the winner now rated 21 lbs higher. There is plenty of pace on in this race with the likes of Simulation Theory, who is a runaway front runner and was better than the bare result at Leicester, drawn well in stall one, and Alibaba in stall three. At the same time, Jazz Samba will look to get across and be prominent from ten. This could easily set up well for the well-handicapped selection, and he is the day’s best bet by some distance.
