At this level, THE TRON should be backed with ideal conditions and having clocked the best five-furlong time in the field. He likes this venue and continues to run well here despite the 1-9 looking a little off-putting. His form figures at this course actually read 522032312, and outside of his zero when a 6/4f beat 11/13 behind Brandy Station when something was a miss, his biggest defeat has been by two lengths. He looks like a solid proposition to get back to winning ways, having a record at the turn of the year that reads 311 over five furlongs and having caught the eye with a good finishing sectional at Newcastle recently.
6.30 Southwell – Vega Sicilia (2pt win – 7/1 Bet365c 6/1 Will Hill, 11/2 generally)
VEGA SICILIA won with plenty in hand when we last saw him at Wolverhampton and switches back into a Handicap today off what looks like a fair mark on that evidence. The time was good, and he won going away despite having to make a move wide around the outside from an unpromising position. This is a false favourite today in Haku, who hasn’t achieved as much as the market is giving him credit for and Blow Your Horn is vulnerable to something less exposed. Nolton Cross has claims back at this venue and is feared most but the selection has now put two excellent runs together on the AW, with the other an eye-catching effort when third to Maghlaak at Kempton in August. Soft ground is a possible excuse for two runs on the turf at Nottingham and Windsor. This unexposed sort is bred to excel on the AW, with plenty of winners in the family. He looks sure to go on to better things being only a four-year-old, and the three pounds weight for age allowance is a bonus.
