11.45 Punchestown – Get My Drift (1pt win – 7/2 generally)
There is a concern that GET MY DRIFT could be looking for a handicap mark, but a chance is taken on the back of a promising start over fences at Navan when a staying on third to Hollow Games. He travelled kindly but was outpaced between two out and the final fence before staying on strongly in the closing stages. He should take a step forward on that seasonal return as he has done for the last three years when improving his RPR significantly the second time out. He could take a high rank among the Irish Novices this season, and he twice ran well at this venue over hurdles. He makes the most appeal for a trainer that went narrowly close to winning this contest last year.

5.50 Wolverhampton – Excel Power (1pt e/w – 7/1 generally)

Alexander James (1pt e/w – 16/1 generally)
EXCEL POWER
‘s wide draw is not ideal for one that likes to front run, but there is only one other horse in here who may try and take him on for the lead. This is a race full of horses that don’t have the brightest turn of foot and are rivals that tend to take time to warm to the task. The selection has an excellent record on the AW, winning four of his nine starts, and this is a drop in grade. He sneaks in at the top of the weights and is unbeaten in two starts in November – could easily have a productive winter. He has a 50% course record, and the nature of this track with a sharp bend into the home straight can see those ridden prominently hard to catch.

ALEXANDER JAMES is the other potential front-runner in this contest, and he took a step in the right direction at Chelmsford when he returned to the AW to take his record to 553113 in Britain while he has been beaten less than three lengths on all occasions. He has a better pitch than the above from stall 5, and he returns to the scene of his last victory and is down in grade into a Class 3. This is weaker than his latest outing over 10f, and the return to 1m looks a big positive. A prominent ride here, as opposed to when held up on his last visit, should see him in the thick of the finish.
