2.40 Nottingham – Calleveryoneuknow (1pt win – 12/1 Bet365, 8/1 generally)
Maso Bastie looks over-priced at the morning odds, having needed every yard of the 1m trip at Lingfield to get up when last seen in December and switching to the turf and up to ten furlongs looks like a good move. He was a big eye-catcher on debut at Kempton in a race that has worked out well, and he has plenty more to offer, but he has to give away stacks of weight, and his temperament is under question, having refused to go in the stalls at Lingfield last month and he may just need this reappearance (can be very keen). CALLEVERYONEYOUKOW had shaped well in two starts last season under a very inexperienced (0-25) rider and did well to come from off the pace at Kempton when last seen. Moving back up in distance is a big positive for her, and she is by Cityscape, whose progeny seem to excel on soft ground. She is priced between 5/1 and 12/1 at the time of writing, but the middle ground of 8/1 looks fair to take a chance.
3.10 Nottingham – Mexicali Rose (1pt win – 7/2 generally)
MEXICALI ROSE traded at 1.06 at Leicester on seasonal return before being picked up late in the day on heavy ground by a useful rival that had previously chased home the smart 90-rated Hello Jumeirah and had the stamina for 1m3f. The pair were 12 lengths clear of anything else in the race. She clearly shaped as though she needed the run, and with that now under her belt, she could be ready to take a step forward. She has proven under today’s conditions and is likely to benefit from this step up in distance if not produced to hit the front too soon as she was at Leicester, and she looks fairly treated.
4.10 Nottingham – Golden Lyra (2pt win – @SP)
I have a strong feeling that Crystal Caprice will be the horse many flocks to here, given her trainer’s record in the race in recent years. However, there is little form book evidence that suggests moving up to ten furlongs at this stage in her career is a positive. It was a steadily run race she won at Ascot in September, and Goodwood is an easy mile. She has a positive profile, but GOLDEN LYRA was fast improving last season and ended her season out with an authoritative victory in France under no more than hand and heels, and that was worth an upgrade having come from off a steady pace while it’s a big positive to see Tom Marquand on the filly. She has her optimal ground conditions and showed up very well at Newbury last term on seasonal reappearance. She ticks all the boxes and boasts the strongest form in the race, with her second at Newbury last season. She makes the most appeal despite a three pounds penalty under today’s conditions, but given the likely popularity of Crystal Caprice, backing her at SP odds seems the right move.
