3.00 Leicester – CHORUS LINE (1pt win – 12/1 BetUK, 10/1 generally)
CHORUS LINE looks well worth chancing on seasonal return, having shaped with considerable promise last season in three starts last season in some hot contests when tenderly handled, and the booking of William Buick suggests she might be ready to roll the first time up. She was a big eye-catcher at this venue on debut behind a useful 86-rated rival and was hampered in the early part of the race. The form of any of those contests, despite it being in defeat, is stronger than the latest victory of today’s favourite Torfrida, who now contests a faster surface. This is not a strong race, and surely Ed Dunlop’s filly has a far more promising future when unleashed.
7.25 Nottingham – AL MUZN (1pt win – 9/2 generally)
AL MUZN has been tenderly handled in three starts for Roger Varian but has caught the eye on each occasion, and perhaps the switch to handicaps and dropping into the basement Class 6 grade will be enough to see him to the best effect. He has been given an opening rating of 65 which allows him to sneak into this contest off top weight, but it’s an excellent bit of placing with a field rated between 65 and 58 (other than Furnicoe) seeing compressed weights. The switch to turf is another positive, and there’s surely more to come from him.
