Published: 5:23pm – 15th August (Odds correct at time of posting, where available)

3.00 Kempton – Alooqaal (2pt win – 2/1 bet365, 7/4 William Hill, 13/8 generally)

ALOOQAAL made a bright start for his new yard, and his trainer is a master at improving horses from other outfits. He clocked a good figure in comparison to the rest of this field when scoring here 13 days ago, and a five pounds rise doesn’t look enough to stop him. He is better than this grade. Odisseo is back on the AW with excuses for his last two starts, rates the danger and the form standard setter, but he may not have much in hand of the handicapper and is vulnerable to a stronger stayer at the 1m.

3.30 Kempton – Wild Lion (1pt win – 13/2 bet365, 11/2 William Hill, 7/2 generally)

This is an interesting race, but it could pay to side with WILD LION under Jamie Spencer, who has a 25% strike rate for Saeed bin Suroor. He was drawn in stall 15 at Goodwood and did too much too soon racing wide, but he made a promising move before fading 20 days ago. Connections reach for the visor, which looks like a good move – the trainer has a 32% strike rate with runners wearing a visor on the AW. The selection is 2/2 on the AW and made a promising return to action at Leicester when narrowly touched off after tiring, having come from the rear of the field on the back of a 267-day break. He is still unexposed at this trip and looks well worth keeping on side from a good draw.

3.45 Hamilton – Hey Mr (1pt win – 11/2 bet365 & William Hill, 9/2 generally)

This track may suit Melody King better than Pontefract last time when behind Soul Seeker. They can go too hard here on the sprint course, but the draw in stall one and Soul Seeker in three, along with rain due, tampers enthusiasm. It might be worth taking a chance on HEY MR, who drops into a Class 5 for the first time and can have his effort in the first time tongue-tie at Thirsk last time upgraded. He missed the break and did best of those from off the pace only to be beaten four lengths by the subsequent Great St Wilfred winner Intrinsic Bond. He has clearly not been easy to train with long breaks between his three runs for this yard, so he is entitled to improve, and the rain will be a welcome sign.
