2.20 Bath – POP DANCER (1pt win 11/1 Paddy Power/Betfair, 10/1 generally)
POP DANCER was stopped in his run for us at Wolverhampton last time to finish third, and that was another step back in the right direction. He has fallen 10 pounds in the handicap in four runs – two of which were more than satisfactory. He now drops into a Class 6 race for the first time in his career, and he won third time after a break in 2019 and 2020, so his latest two efforts could have sharpened him up a touch. He is drawn 14, which will put some people off, but it’s no disadvantage to be drawn high at Bath. In fact, depending on where you look, it is a positive.

2.50 Bath – ALIOMAANA (1pt win 25/1 Bet365, 20/1 generally)
This is a tight little heat, but there are question marks over a few of these and what they have achieved to date. The drop in trip doesn’t look a positive for Chairman, who is the rightful favourite, while Tropez Power’s best performances have come on the all-weather, Yarralumla looks limited, and it’s concerning that Silverscape has been off 130 days since his Lingfield win. Green Team is the unknown quantity but hardly looks thrown in off this mark of 90, so a chance is taken with ALIOMAANA, who’s jumping went to pot at Ludlow 16 days ago and returns to the level off what looks a reasonable handicap mark judged on her five all-weather runs to date. She is entitled to improve on those efforts and the form of those runs, mainly her Chelmsford run in April last year, looks very strong. Pat Dobbs has a 29% strike rate for this yard, and connections did express at Wincanton that they want to find some black type on the flat, and if that’s the case, she will need to be winning here. She looks a big price.
