1.50 Newmarket – Robjon (0.5pt each-way, 25/1 Paddy Power, Betfair, Boyles)
ROBJON is a horse I followed for much of the season last term, and there was enough promise in his seasonal return run at Kempton (first go on the AW) to think he has trained on after a decent two-year-old season. He has been gelded and sits on a handicap mark of 93, which could prove to be easily in reach now race fit after ending the season chasing home two potential classic hopes in Masekela and Bayside Boy at Newbury in August.
He was beaten less than three lengths there over 7f, but the drop back in trip and the strong pace on offer in this contest, along with the stiff nature of this track, could see him to the best effect. He has a fitness edge over most of his rivals and given how he progressed last term with each run and he is well worth chancing to get his head in front.

1.50 Newmarket – Pocket The Profit (1pt win – 4/1 betfair, 7/2 the rest)
POCKET THE PROFIT travelled through his return race at Pontefract eight days ago very easily and looked a class above his rivals there as he hit the front with the minimum of fuss. Providing this doesn’t come too soon, he could be in pole position from stall 12 to strike under a penalty. He is fast on the upgrade, and now he has confirmed undulating tracks are no issue. He is one of four in this race that has had the benefit of a run, and he is one to keep on side for now.

2.05 Cheltenham – Stolen Silver (1pt win – 4/1 generally)
STOLEN SILVER ran a cracker for this column in the Plate at the Cheltenham Festival, but the ground went against him. The return to a sounder surface is a big positive to his chances, and given the way he finished off his race there, this trip looks spot on. The handicapper dropped him 1lb in the weights for that run, so he is now eight pounds better off with the winner Coole Cody for an eight-length defeat. He must go close off this mark that is clearly well within his grasp.

2.40 Cheltenham – Call Of The Wild (1pt win, 15/8 bet365)
This is a competitive Novice Hurdle, but CALL OF THE WILD left a deep impression with me at Doncaster as he scooted clear of his twice subsequent winning rival and the form of his Stratford run on hurdle debut when an unlucky loser behind Onemorefortheroad (!34) suggests theres plenty more to come yet. He gets the vote as the fresher horse in this field with optimum conditions.

3.00 Newmarket – Jumby (1pt win – 11/2 bet365, 5/1 Betvictor, Coral)
JUMBY is potentially a Group 1 horse in the making this season, after overcoming trouble in the running here at Newmarket over 7f on the rail at the rear of the field in a steadily run race. He was giving chunks of weight (off a handicap mark of 104) to a progressive three-year-old on a steep upward curve but got the job done cosily in the end.
He could well be seen to best effect over 7f in the short future, but today’s trip of 6f is fine for his reappearance, and he ran a blinder on return when getting no luck in running behind the smart Creative Force on this card last year. He loves Newmarket’s Rowley Mile with form figures of 113, and given that third came behind the above mentioned and subsequent Group 1 winner, it’s extremely top-class form. Ebro River receives the three-year-old allowance of 11lbs, and he may prove hard to beat, but it’s hard to justify his current mark of 113 in the main.

4.25 Cheltenham – Last Royal (2pts win – 10/3 bet365)
LAST ROYAL was extremely impressive at Wincanton last month and recorded a strong time figure in the process, which suggests this opening handicap mark of 122 could significantly underestimate him. According to connections after that race, the step up to 3m has been on the cards for some time, and there’s plenty to suggest that there’s more to come from him at this trip. His form is riddled with reasons to think he can defy the handicapper here.
He has been learning his trade in Maiden and Novice Hurdles, and his jumping has improved start by start, but at Wincanton, it was really on point. In his Maiden at Uttoxeter, he chased home Minella Encore rated 130 over hurdles and gave him 7lbs only to go down narrowly by 1 1/2 lengths after a blunder at the final flight. The third, a good five lengths off the pair from that race is rated 130 over hurdles. A mistake at the final flight at Chepstow saw him run out of time when rallying strongly in the closing stages behind Ree Okka (128) and Complete Unknown (134) to be beaten two lengths.
He was pressuring for the lead, over recent Aintree Grade 1 runner-up Gentleman At Arms (143) when coming down two out at Huntingdon before he found Taunton coming too quickly four days later when well beaten. The form of his Exeter second has worked out well when shaping in need of a stiffer test, and this 3m should bring out further improvement in him. He takes on mainly exposed rivals today, so he must have a huge chance.

6.40 Kempton – Up For Parol (1pt win – 6/1 bet365)
I want to be on the side of UP FOR PAROL here, who will find this much easier than his last eye-catching performance at Kempton in the Lanzarote Hurdle. He needs to bounce back from a disappointing run at Sandown last time, but the drop back in trip for him was a big negative there. His future certainly lies over 3m, so stepping back up to 2m5f here is a good move by connections.
He is clearly on a workable handicap mark, and Kevin Brogan takes over in the saddle and claims a further 3lbs off him, which sees him 5lbs lower than his Lanzerote sixth. Both of his wins have come on a sounder surface, and the return to good ground is another positive. He can get back to winning ways here, dopped into a class 3 handicap for the first time.
