Daryl Carter's Best Bets - Wednesday, 19th October

Top Tipster Daryl Carter struck earlier in the week with an 11/2 winner Magical Effect (advised at 9/1) on his Monday column, and has plenty of picks for Wednesday’s action.

Back his selections with Paddy Power‘s new customer offer and get £20 money back if it loses.

2.25 Newmarket – Regal Honour (2pt win – 6/5 generally)
REGAL HONOUR did really well to overcome an untidy start, a slow pace, and a draw bias at Newmarket last month to finish with a strong effort. That race looks worth following, and he will almost certainly learn plenty for that outing. He is a very promising sort who was purchased for a hefty price, and this race on paper is far weaker. Greek Order is a very promising horse also, but he has only run up to around 70 on the bare form, and the selection is the quicker horse on the clock. Still, it looks set to be a match.

5.30 Kempton – Primrose Ridge (1pt win – 4/1 generally)
Paspaley has been learning on the job, and he might find things happening too quickly for him here on this sharp speed track on the evidence of his fast-finishing efforts at Newbury and Newcastle. Instead, PRIMROSE RIDGE is worth another chance after having some stiff tests in the Redcar Listed Two-Year-Old Trophy and at Royal Ascot in the Queen Mary. She was better than the bare result at Lingfield over a trip too short when denied a clear run and finished with running left, doing very well from off the pace. Interestingly, her best efforts this term have come on turning tracks, so reverting back to this scenario could be a big positive, and her stamina over this six-furlong trip is worth chancing.

7.30 Kempton – Mount Athos (1.5pt win – 3/1 Bet365, 5/2 generally)
MOUNT ATHOS has been in the tracker for a while, and he looks to have been handed a very lenient opening handicap rating of 84 on the balance of his form. He romped home at Thirsk, and that form has been given plenty of boosts since he faces exposed rivals for a trainer that has used this course to good effect in the past. The booking of James Doyle suggests he is ready to fire after a short mid-season break. He clocked some eye-catching sectionals at Thirsk, and his debut form behind the 102-rated Dawn Of Liberation two starts back suggests he could have a good bit in hand here.

8.00 Kempton – The Lamplighter (1pt win – 14/1 Bet365, 11/1 generally)

Beyond Equal (1pt win – 15/2 888, 7/1 generally
THE LAMPLIGHTER has been off the track since his eye-catching second at Goodwood, but his form figures on the back of a break make for positive reading, and he is twice a winner here at Kempton with complete form figures of 3150251020. Interestingly, since fitted with the tongue-tie cheek-piece combination, he has been remarkably consistent and progressive, registering five of his six career wins. Today represents a drop in grade into a Class 4 contest, and he faces mainly exposed rivals, and he looks over-priced on what he has achieved to date.

BEYOND EQUAL has an excellent record at Kempton with form figures of 1252, and he has excuses for his latest two defeats. This drop back into Class 4 company on the AW could just prove the ticket. He remains unexposed on this surface, and he has only had four outings over this 6f – his optimal distance – this term, and they came in some hot contests. This is calmer waters, and he has a good setup here from stall two, so I want to be on him also.
