This could set up well for ANY NEWS who gave the firm impression a return to form was imminent last time at Kempton in a well-run affair. He lacked the pace to seriously challenge in the closing stages, but the addition of the cheek-pieces today could really suit him. His jumping was far more polished than it had been at Kempton, and his strong travelling effort left the impression that his time could be near. He is well-handicapped on old exploits, and with Cap Du Mathan and The Widdow Maker ensuring this will be run at a good clip he could just see the race fall into his lap. Cap Du Mathan was flattered by his latest victory, and he has sulked when not getting a soft lead in the past. The Widdow Maker went through his race well at Sandown under “soft hands” Adam Wedge, jumping straight as a dye, and this performance was in complete contrast to his run at Ludlow in December when he jumped violently left. I’d worry that may creep back in on this turning track, but he is very much respected.
