2.35 Yarmouth – Jean Danjou (1pt win – 11/1 generally)
This is a race full of exposed types, with Flower Of Thunder and At Liberty respected given their course record, but surely JEAN DANJOU has more to offer off of this rating and down into a class 5. He has only had five career runs, and his debut neck second to Maghlaak at Goodwood is as good as any form in this race. I had him noted down as one that could improve for the fitting of headgear and connections waited until Lingfield on his fourth run to fit that, and he was a big eye-catcher when getting no run up the rail in a good Class 4 contest. They took that off on seasonal return, but strangely he still went off favourite for a class 4 contest at Windsor on heavy ground, but he shaped in desperate need of the outing, and the switch to a sounder surface should benefit the son of Lope De Vega. The booking of William Buick is eye-catching, and the headgear returns today. He is well worth chancing at double-figure odds.
4.00 Ayr – Yaaser (1pt win – 8/1 Bet365, 7/1 generally)
As many of you know, YAASER has frustrated me on a few occasions, but back at Ayr and down in grade may be the time to catch him. He shaped with promise on his latest two starts as though he was building up esteem, and he went very well at this time last year, recording form figures in the late spring to early summer of 11224211. He returns to the scene of his last victory and has now recorded form figures as this venue of 12421 in the past 12 months and gets a quick surface for the first time since scoring at Doncaster in the highly competitive Racing League. He ran a blinder last season at Ascot from 10lbs out of the handicap under Amie Waugh and is now effectively 14lbs lower, having finished a two-length ninth when denied a clear run. There’s scope in his rating, and there is more to come from him at this level, and he is handicapped to have a big say with a race likely run to suit.
5.00 Ayr – Tilsitt (1pt e/w – 8/1 888, 15/2 Paddy Power, 7/1 generally)
Much of this market is taken up by the Irish raider Theophilos, who is an unknown quantity, but that leaves some value to be had with TILSITT at the morning odds, who shaped encouragingly ten days ago at Hamilton and could be ready to bounce back to form down in grade. He is easily forgiven his seasonal return at Musselburgh over a trip too short of seven furlongs from a wide draw, and it paid to be on the pace at Hamilton latest. He ran on encouragingly there, and the jockey switch to Jason Hart is a positive move, as is coming back to Ayr, which saw him score on his first visit here last season off of this rating of 77 in a class 4 event. His Ayr record now reads 213121223330 at Class 3 level or lower, and in today’s grade over 1m or further, it reads 212122 with his defeats by no more than 3/4 of a length. He has optimal conditions today to run a big race and rates a good each-way bet in this company.
