14:50 Hamilton – Invincible Tiger (1.5pt win – 4/1 generally)
INVINCIBLE TIGER was behind Lieutenant Rascal on debut 25 days ago, but he went off a far shorter price than that rival, and the George Scott horse has since been turned out quickly and now gets the fitting of blinkers on just his third run, which seems all a little bit desperate. The selection shaped well in on the rail before getting the hang of things late on and closed strongly to the line. His action suggests soft ground would have been against him there, and the move to a sounder surface is a positive for this son of Invincible Army, who excelled on a faster surface. James Tate’s runner is hard to ignore on the statistical front, with the trainer having an excellent 55% strike rate here and is 1-1 100% with two-year-olds at this venue. What’s more, he has won with his last five consecutive runners at Hamilton stretching back to 2015, so the fact that he makes the 363-mile journey today for this his only runner on the card should be noted.
4.10 Beverley – Poets Dawn (1pt win – 12/1 generally)
This is a wide-open race despite the presence of Shaladar, who failed to find any sort of finishing kick at Hamilton last time, and he may be worth taking on with this stiff finish and from what could prove a tricky draw from stall one. Golden Sands bumped into a well-handicapped pair of rivals here last time and is interesting, but this stiff 1m does stretch his stamina. He is likely to be on the sharp end of the pace along with POETS DAWN, who is a five-time course winner and was better than the bare result at Ayr last year under an inexperienced rider when finding Shaladar only two lengths too good – running on at the finish. He has looked well out of form this season, but the return to this venue has seen him leave poor efforts behind previously. He finished last of ten on return last year before bouncing out to score here off of 80, finished 10th of 17 at Pontefract before scoring next time at Nottingham, finished 16/17 at York before going within 1/2 a length here at Beverley next time and did the same in 2018 when last of five at Redcar before scoring here off 75. Therefore, I am happy to put a line through those efforts this season, hoping that the return to this venue, drop in class, and back on a sounder surface will return him to form. He is drawn well in stall four, and David Allan is back in the saddle, and this well-handicapped eight-year-old looks good value at 8/1 or bigger.
