1.50 Leicester – Miladygrace (2pt win – 6/4 William Hill, 11/8 generally)
MILADYGRACE looks well ahead of the handicapper on the evidence of her latest Taunton victory, and she is offered up to go back-to-back. She was comfortably ahead of Gaelic Thunder on that occasion, and it’s hard to see him reverse the form here while she was well ahead of Braveheart before slipping on the turn at Ludlow. She has Fergal O’Brien’s runner to beat, who could easily improve after switching to fences with excuses last time, and his point-to-point form has worked out well. Still, I was taken with the performance of Martin Keighley’s runner at Taunton as she quickened away from the back of the second last. She remains unexposed in this sphere, and she could have too much pace for these.
3.00 Leicester – Golden Taipan (1pt win – 10/1 Bet365, 9/1 generally)
GOLDEN TAIPAN shaped encouragingly in the Badger Beers at Wincanton when finding three miles too far, and although a winner at the distance the drop back in trip is a positive. He struggled to get into the race as many do at Wincanton from the rear of the field, but it was a step back in the right direction. His previous beaten effort at Warwick, when fitted with the blinkers, is easily forgiven, and keeping to a right-handed track also looks like a good move. The quick ground will prove ideal, and he ticks a lot of boxes and drops back in grade into a 0-130. Calico can go out to the left, so he needs to be taken with caution, while Ashington didn’t have things work out the last time he was over fences. Bold Endeavour is, of course, interesting now with Nicky Henderson, but a double-figure price about the selection looks like the correct play.
