7.00 Kempton – PACO’S PRIDE (1pt win – 5/1 generally)
PACO’S PRIDE has caught the eye on all three of her qualifying runs and now starts life off in handicaps with a five pounds claimer on board. She looks very fairly treated on balance, and Roger Varian has had a 38% strike rate at this venue in the last five years with handicap debutants scoring with seven of his 18 runners with 11 hitting the frame. Paco’s Pride is bred to be useful, and given she recorded an RPR of 70 on her penultimate start, a rating of 59 inclusive of the jockey claim is surely well within reach. Olympic Quest is feared most.
7.30 Kempton – GOLDEN MAYFLOWER (1pt win – 3/1 Bet365, 9/4 generally)
GOLDEN MAYFLOWER has been in the tracker for a while now, but she really caught my eye again when I thought she might need the run at Lingfield last time in a race that has worked out well. She flew home and showed the benefit of a wind surgery and an 85-day break to be narrowly denied at Lingfield by Super Den. She passed the entire field in a race and firmly hinted that she was a well-handicapped horse. That was a career-best effort, and she returns to the scene of her excellent second to Al Husn (100), who is since unbeaten and further efforts in the Filles Oaks trial and Sandringham are easily forgiven. It may be the case that she is a better horse on the AW, and she was heavily backed in the Racing League in September but to no avail in a steady-run affair. She is worth chancing back here off clearly a workable rating and is fancied over Lightship, who ran well on his first start for this yard after an absence last time.
