Published: 5:57pm – 23rd August (Odds correct at time of posting, where available)

3.10 Lingfield – Tyson (1pt win – 16/1 Paddy, Betfair, 14/1 888sport)

3.10 Lingfield – George Morland (1pt win – 18/1 Paddy, Betfair, 16/1 888sport)

TYSON has been a disappointment for a good while, but the step back up to 7f could be the answer after he caught the eye running on strongly from well off the pace here 18 days ago.

His two best efforts have come here this season, and today’s strong pace on offer should help. He has become well-handicapped after falling 12lbs this season, and his penultimate start at Wolverhampton was better than the bare result after being granted no luck in running. He’s worth chancing.

GEORGE MORLAND is interesting for Amy Murphy. After having a spell in France, he returns to Britain and is back on the AW, for which his form figures read 2201. He left Britain rated 78 running in Class 4 contests and is now down to 71 with a useful five pounds claimer dropped into a Class 5 for the first time in handicaps.

His well-being will need to be taken on trust, but he did record an RPR of 93 in France over this trip on his second start after being gelded. He left Britain chasing home (beaten a short head) Epsom Faithfull in February – a horse now 12lbs higher in the handicap doing best of those from the rear of the field.

6.00 Kempton – Island Of Skye (1pt win – 8/1 Paddy, Betfair, 888sport)

The booking of William Buick is a plus for any mount at the moment, but ISLAND OF SKYE has caught the eye the last twice, and the latest at Nottingham saw him clearly ridden with handicaps in mind. Today marks his handicap debut, and more is expected off of this lowly rating of 63.

His latest run saw him finishing a hand and heels fourth behind 73, 73 and 73, and the third is a recent winner at Musselburgh. He was beaten four lengths there but asked for very little effort coming from off the pace when the winner, second and third all were on the front end of a slow gallop.

That was worth upgrading, and his run at Windsor saw him bump into one rated 92, and while he had no chance with that winner, his jockey was mindful about getting any closer than needed. The standard of this contest is not set high outside of the favourite, who may have been flattered at Southwell.

7.30 Kempton – Qoya (1pt win – 4/1 generally)

Qoya is firmly on the upgrade, and she was undone by a slow pace when behind East End Girl at Newcastle when sporting the first-time tongue-tie and a likely stronger pace here, courtesy of Whimsy added to the mix should see her to better effect.

She was denied a clear run at a crucial stage and had to barge her way out of trouble. She is a typical Haggas horse that will continue to thrive and improve, and she will certainly leave this rating of 68 well behind her in time.
