2.30 Lingfield – Borough (1pt win -9/4 general)

BOROUGH is screaming out to go up to six furlongs, but thankfully this race has plenty of early speed, and it’s unlikely Ryan Moore is going to sit too far off the pace, so his stamina should be seen to good effect. He was an eye-catcher at Wolverhampton last time and has steady race-by-race progression. He is the one in this field that arrives on an upward curve while Fragrance, One More Olly and Thunder Ball all have taken backwards steps and don’t look particularly well treated.

3.50 Southwell – Tucson Cloud (1pt win – 4/1 bet365, 7/2 Will Hill, 11/4 general)

TUCSON CLOUD was disappointing at Newmarket last time, but her best performances have come on a softer surface, recording useful RPR’S in the process, so switched to this surface, she may be worth forgiving. She won well at Leicester on her penultimate start beating one now rated 91, and she arrives on the back of a short break. This is a drop back into Class 4 company, and she is relatively unexposed. She is a strong stayer, and this could set up well for her with a good clip on. Sir Michael Stoute’s runner is just his third at this venue in the last five years.

4.20 Southwell – Baez (2pt win – 9/2 general)

This will be fought out between Foursome and BAEZ, and the preference is for the David Menuisier runner, who would have likely won at Goodwood on handicap debut in a race that has worked out well if not for a denied passage. She was undone by a very slowly run race at Chepstow but was a big eye-catcher, finishing with a flurry. Anything she has done over shorter than this 1m4f is probably a bonus, and when back on turf, she should only be considered on soft ground. Still, this surface should suit her well, and she may be able to outstay Foursome, who took a step forward at Windsor last time but was well positioned and had a little excuse. She is also open to further improvement, but the presence of the cheekpieces this early on is not encouraging. Their form ties in together through a horse called Travesuras, who beat Baez when well positioned and clung on to victory and then finished 1/2 a length behind Foursome at the same venue when coming from the rear of the field (did the best of those held up) and widest of all losing plenty of ground. Baez gets the vote to come off strongest at the finish. The remainder all have little to recommend them.

7.55 Hamilton – Granite City Doc (1pt win – 14/1 Will Hill, 12/1 general)

GRANITE CITY DOC hasn’t won for two years, but he really caught the eye at Ayr earlier this month and ran on strongly at the finish despite not getting the clearest of passages. That run hinted that a return to form may be imminent, and he matched his best RPR of the season. He goes very well here at Hamilton, and on adjusted RPR’S he is only 1lb off what is required to win this. The handicapper has been quick to relent this term, and it’s interesting that the headgear now comes off (all wins without headgear). He did the best of those from off the pace at Ayr last time when supported in the market, and he should have a part to play today, especially with soft in the going description, for which this is only his first attempt in class six company without any headgear.
