2.40 Chester – CITE D’OR (0.5pt e/w – 28/1 BetUK & Will Hill, 25/1 bet365)
CITE D’OR looks like a good spot of value fitted with the cheek-pieces and up in distance after catching the eye in a Listed contest against the boys at Epsom last month. That race clocked a good time, and in Britain, she has only finished outside the first two on one occasion. Connections clearly had high aspirations for her when throwing her in deep in France for a Grade 1 contest when not disgraced as a two-year-old, and this race looks a little thin on quality. The return to a sounder surface is a positive, and she is the joint highest-rated in the field. The market has favoured potential over form on this occasion, and even her sixth to Dubai Mile at the back end of last term in Saint Cloud is strong enough to play a hand here ( the fourth 3/4 of a length ahead of her is second favourite for the Vase). Her fitness should see her go well here.
3.45 Chester – ROYAL DRESS (1pt win – 4/1 generally)
There are stacks of pace on here, but the draw is so important at Chester that trainers have been known to pull their horses out when drawn wide. ROYAL DRESS is surely ahead of the handicapper off of this rating of 80, having scooted up at Doncaster on reappearance, and there’s a good case to be made that she should have won at both Newmarket and Doncaster last season as a two-year-old. She will leave this rating behind in due course, and a good draw in stall three next to two pace angles in California Gem (2) and Radio Goo Goo (1) should see her in pole position to strike under Ryan Moore. She is entitled to take a good step forward for her reappearance run.
4.55 Chester – PAWS FOR THOUGHT (1pt win – 4/1 generally)
PAWS FOR THOUGHT denied us an end to a losing run in this race last season, and with no course specialist Ffion in the race this time to deny us in the final strides, I am hopeful he can end the current poor run of form a year on. He likes this venue and has been granted a fair draw in stall six, and his record fresh is sublime, recording form figures of 2 and 1 – both at this venue. The headgear this time around could help him finish out his race, and plenty looks to be in his favour, including the ground and his in form prominent rivals drawn wide. He could get a solo on the front end today and make all.
