The favourite Top Rank looks appealing on his form figures of four straight victories but I am always suspicious of one that has shot up the handicap without beating anything of note to back up his official rating.
He takes a step up in Class here off a 12lb higher mark and although he could turn out to be a Pattern performer, I would rather side with tried and tested SIR BUSKER. The selection was unlucky at Goodwood off this handicap mark of 107 when denied a clear run on multiple occasions when finishing on the bridle and he has progressed rapidly this term and is ARIGATO (2.45 York, 0.5pts each-way 22/1) arguably unlucky not to be unbeaten this season himself, with his form figures over this 1m trip reading 91161.
He holds a few of these on his previous efforts this term and he is one that can compete at a higher level in the future and he rates a solid bet.

ARIGATO is worth a cover bet and was another who was unfortunate at Goodwood in the Class 3 handicap on Wednesday when repeatedly denied a run and unable to continue his progression he has shown this season.
He set some very useful fractions back at Yarmouth behind Maydanny earlier in the season and has improved with each run over 7f since, including when third at Newmarket at this level when he again found traffic.
He finished a solid fourth there off today’s mark and he now looks ready for the step back up to 1m. His form has worked out well and is drawn in stall 7 which can see him gain a prominent racing position.

ALBAFLORA (3,45 York, 0.5pts win 15/2)
ALBFLORA looked one to firmly keep on side when chasing home the smart Rose Of Kildare in the Group 3 Musidora Stakes here last time out on just her second career start and she will relish this step up in trip.
She looked outpaced at a crucial stage in the race but stayed on strongly in the closing stages. The form of her debut victory has worked out well and she remains one to be positive about.

GOLDEN PASS (3,45 York, 0.5pts each-way 14/1)
GOLDEN PASS has been bought along slowly by Hugo Palmer who is a master trainer with his fillies and he wouldn’t be throwing her in the deep end here if he didn’t think a little bit of her.
She shaped nicely on debut finishing under a hand and heels ride at Newmarket behind Queen Daenerys after being denied a clear run, and the winner has advertised the form well since.
At Beverley she proved she was all about stamina when staying on strongly over 1m2 to beat subsequent winner Lightness and she looked to be crying out for this step up in trip.

VINTAGE BRUT (4.25 Chester, 0.5pts each-way 10/1)
Over at Chester, VINTAGE BRUT drops back to 5f for the first time since 2018 and has dropped a total of 13lb in the handicap in three runs this season.
He was gelded prior to his seasonal return and he may have needed those couple of runs to get over that operation as many do but he showed signs of a revival at Ripon last time despite nearly unseasting his jockey coming out of the stalls.
He faded inside the final furlong there and this drop in trip looks a good move. His best performances have come with soft in the going description so today’s ground should suit and a return to Chester, where he ran well in a Listed race this time last year, can help him capitalise on this reduced mark.

AMBER STORM (4.50 York, 0.5pts each-way 15/2)
AMBER STORM frustrated this column last time out when cruising by her field at Haydock only to find very little once hitting the front. A combination of things seemed to go wrong but she undoubtedly showed herself to be a useful filly and this drop back to 7f can only look to be a positive on the basis of that performance.
She has no right to win this being effectively 7lb higher than her second at Haydock but she showed an unusual burst of speed at Musselburgh the time before and I had her ahead of her mark either way. She is worth following for small stakes.

ODYSSEY GIRL (4.50 York, 1pt each-way 10/1)
In terms of recent form lines, none are stronger than those of ODYSSEY GIRL and she looks to have been underestimated by the market.
At first glance it would look to be that she has had ample opportunities to win off this mark and that may be true but form in defeat is better than no form in winning. Her runs this season have seen her bump into horses who have shot up the handicap ratings and on paper this is an easier task.
She has finished outside of the first three on just one occasion since the resumption of racing and that came in the Sandringham Stakes at Royal Ascot and she rates a solid each-way player.
