There are six horse racing fixtures in the UK & Ireland on Saturday 13 December, but we focus our attentions for the GG Lucky 15 on the action at Doncaster and Cheltenham racecourse.
Providing two quality jumping cards, our in-house tipster Steve Chambers picks out his best two bets at each track and we pick our reasons for the selections meeting by meeting.
Doncaster Racing Tips (Saturday 13 December 2025)
A seven-race card at Doncaster begins at 11.55am with four hurdle races and three chases. The best bets on the card later in the afternoon, as we have selections in the 2.05pm and 3.17pm races.
2.05 Doncaster – Alcedo (1pt win – 4/1)
A narrow winner at Newcastle last time out, Alcedo will be looking to notch up back-to-back wins for Venetia Williams and the seven-year-old can duly that with victory in the 2.05pm at Doncaster. Alcedo edged out the hot favourite Grand Geste in that recent race at Newcastle, but it was the manner in which the pair drew over 10 lengths clear of their rivals which suggests there’s more to come. Given a 6lbs rise by the handicapper for that win, Alcedo will need to kick on again, but he is the only one with a win on his last start of Saturday’s runners, and he can get the better of the likes Docpickedme and Joyeux Machin.
3.17 Doncaster – Washington (1pt win – 6/1)
A winner at Chepstow on his comeback run, Washington failed to follow that up with any sort of run in a top notch Ascot handicap hurdle, which was won by the ever-progressive Alexei. You have to draw a line through that Ascot run and if Dan Skelton can get him back to his Chepstow form then he has to be considered. He’s still off a mark of 132, which is 4lbs higher than his last winning mark, but Megan Fox will take 7lbs off his back, so he has to be given a huge chance at the weights. He’s often been a horse that wins or finishes out the back, so he’s far from consistent, but if the Chepstow Washington turns up then he has to be considered.
Cheltenham Racing Tips (Saturday 13 December 2025)
Day two of Cheltenham’s December meeting is a seven-race card getting underway at 12.10pm, with the feature race, the December Gold Cup, being run at 1.50pm. We pick out a selection in the December Gold Cup as well as one in the 2.25pm contest.
1.50 Cheltenham – Vincenzo (1pt win – 9/2)
Not out of the first two on all five career starts over fences, Vincenzo ran an absolute stormer when finishing second to Panic Attack in the Paddy Power Gold Cup. With that Dan Skelton-trained runner going on to win the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury the form has been well and truly franked and the Sam Thomas-trained Vincenzo can kick on again and land victory in the December Gold Cup at 1.50pm. He’s only been upped 2lbs for that run, so a mark of 139 looks workable, and he should be able to frank the form with Hoe Joly Smoke, who lines up on Saturday, as he was over two lengths clear of that rival back at Cheltenham last month.
2.25 Cheltenham – JPR One (1pt win – 4/1)
A former winner of the Haldon Gold Cup, JPR One will be looking to defy top weight in the 2.25pm at Cheltenham, but he’s more than capable if he can produce his best form for Joe Tizzard. Last seen finishing a solid third in a top notch Ascot handicap chase, JPR One has been given a 2lbs rise for that run, but he’s undoubtedly the class act in this event, and with cheekpieces applied for the second time he could well storm clear of his rivals. He doesn’t have the best record at Cheltenham, but he’s worth taking a chance on in a race that will see Davids Well and Excelero look his main dangers.
