Day 4 of the St Leger Festival sees the feature St Leger take centre stage at 3:35pm. As well as that, however, there is an excellent supporting card for punters to enjoy which includes the Group 2 Champagne Stakes and the Group 2 Park Stakes. We have produced bets through the card for the racing below, which are all available to back through Paddy Power and their exclusive bet £10 – get £40 free bets offer.
THUNDER LEGEND – (1.15 Doncaster, Vertem Nursery Handicap)
This race should set up nicely for THUNDER LEGEND, who deservedly got off the mark at the third attempt when scoring at Hamilton last month.
The switch to prominent tactics paid dividends there, and with the four rivals in this line-up all looking hold-up rides James Doyle should be given the opportunity to lead again.
A mark of 84 doesn’t look insurmountable for his nursery debut, and he looks a far more solid proposition to his rivals Fall Of Rome – who needs cheekpieces to iron out his quirks, and La Pulga – who finished 2nd past the post in a Carlisle novice last time that he was 4/5 to win.
Magic Warrior looks a far from guaranteed stayer on pedigree and the other Hannon runner Desert Angel bombed out at York last time, so at 2/1 Thunder Legend rates a confident selection.

MID WINSTER – (1.45 Doncaster, Portland Handicap)
Hurricane Ivor retains potential for his connections but won’t find this easy off his triple-figure rating and that tilts things in favour of MID WINSTER.
An impressive course winner in July, Paul Midgley’s mare arrives here on the back of a fine second at York where she chased home the speedy Tweet Tweet. She was rated 90 in Ireland at her peak, so a current mark of 87 shouldn’t prove beyond her, particularly as her shrewd connections are renowned for improving young sprinters.
With David Egan in the saddle, odds of 20/1 look over generous.

REACH FOR THE MOON – (2.20 Doncaster, Champagne Stakes)
Lusail will struggle to concede three pounds to REACH FOR THE MOON here, whose only career defeats have come at the hands of exceptional juvenile pair New Science and Point Lonsdale.
John & Thady Gosden’s charge laughed at his rivals in the Solario Stakes last month, and that performance marked him down as a future Group 1 operator.
Bayside Boy is no forlorn hope having looked unfortunate not to score at Newbury last time, albeit the proximity of the 95-rated Robjon to the front two that day does leave the form open to question.

LANEQASH – (3.00 Doncaster, Cazoo Park Stakes)
LANEQASH found bottomless ground against him on his final start at two. He improved out of all recognition returned to a sound surface at Newbury last time, when chasing home the smart Sacred – a horse who looks Group 1 bound.
Having had just the four career starts Laneqash remains open to significant improvement yet already holds a rating which entitles him to be winning this. As such, it is of little surprise to see him as short as 7/4 in a race which lacks strength in depth.
Danyah is yet to convince that he is up to this level so the main danger to the selection is likely to come from Glorious Journey, albeit, at six, he isn’t getting any younger.

THE MEDITERRANEAN – (3.35 Doncaster, Cazoo St Leger Stakes)
Hurricane Lane is clearly going to be incredibly tough to beat in this line-up, but if there is an alternative who looks a little overpriced then it is THE MEDITERRANEAN.
This son of Galileo has looked steadily progressive in 2021, putting up a career-best performance when runner-up in the Great Voltigeur last month. Wayne Lordan rode that day, and he retains familiarities this afternoon, whilst on the back of that run, stepping up to this distance can only bring about some further improvement from The Mediterranean.
With Hurricane Lane priced up at 5/6 and The Mediterranean at 22/1, he rates as the better bet in a race in which those immediately behind Hurricane Lane in the betting have questions to answer.

LIVING LEGEND – (4.05 Doncaster, Hippo Pro 3 Handicap)
Title looks a quirky sort and is certainly not one to take a short price about at this stage, whilst Dark Jedi is paying for his consistency – with a two-pound rise for his latest York third looking a little harsh.
Sword Beach has never won from a mark this high, Tyson Fury would likely appreciate softer ground (albeit he certainly has the class to challenge), and Cardano tends to save his best form for the all-weather nowadays.
That leaves LIVING LEGEND, who was once a smart three-year-old who finished four and a half lengths in front of Dark Jedi in the 2019 Dee Stakes – the three ahead of him that day all triple-figure rated.
He was off the track for 841 days afterwards but reappeared with a fine fourth at Newmarket and bettered that showing when second at Haydock last week. Those runs suggest that Living Legend retains a fair chunk of his ability and if that is the case then he is potentially thrown in here off a mark of 94.
He rates as one of the best bets on the card at his current 9/2 price.

ROYAL FLEET – (5.10 Doncaster, Vermantia Handicap)
The three-year-olds are the ones to focus on here. Pythagoras is undoubtedly well treated off a mark of 98 but he does come with risks attached so ROYAL FLEET and Raadobarg look the safer propositions, with marginal preference going to Charlie Appleby’s horse.
A winner of his first three career starts, Royal Fleet tasted defeat for the first time at York last month, but that effort can be forgiven as he raced keenly after being trapped wide throughout from his wide draw.
Stall 7 should give him more options for cover this afternoon and it seems unlikely that we have seen the best of him just yet.
The aforementioned Raadobarg wasn’t disgraced in the Britannia Stakes when last seen and is another whose best days look ahead of him.
