Epsom Racing Tips (Friday 14 August 2026)
Six races take place at Epsom on Friday, with the action beginning at 2.48pm. Andrew’s best bet on the card lines up in the opener and is an intriguing runner for Andrew Balding.
2.48 Epsom – Wise And Wonderful (1pt win – 7/4 bet365, William Hill)
Wise And Wonderful was described as “pressed leaders on outer” when runner-up at Wetherby on her second career start and “made all” when scoring over 7f at Epsom shortly after. Andrew Balding’s juvenile was popular in the market ahead of her handicap debut in the Whispering Angel Nursery at Goodwood last month, starting at 10-1, but her stall 14 of 18 daw might life extremely difficult and she was unable to adopt her usual prominent early role, receiving the comment “in rear, hampered 2f out, keeping on when hampered inside final 110yds, not recover” on her way to a tenth place finish in a race dominated by those drawn very low. As that Racing Post close-up comment suggests, her finishing position can be upgraded and the return to Epsom/smaller field can see her back to winning ways.
Thirsk Racing Tips (Friday 14 August 2026)
A further six races come from Thirsk this evening, with Andrew opting for the 6.43pm contest for his best bet.
6.43 Thirsk – Accrual (1pt win – 4/1 bet365, 7/2 generally)
Moulin Bouj had the perfect pace set-up when scoring at Nottingham 72 hours but the lack of front-runners in this 5f handicap could make it tricky for George Scott’s six-year-old to follow up. Of greater interest is Accrual, who clocked a fast time when making all over course and distance 13 days ago on his debut for Ruth Carr. The five-year-old was ridden patiently in his final few runs for David Loughnane but, assuming the forcing tactics are used again, he could prove hard to pass. Carr does well in handicap company with her last-time out winners, scoring with 41 of the 216 qualifiers (19% strike-rate) since the beginning of 2022 for a profit of £31.91 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£66.55 at Betfair SP after 2% commission, expected wins = 30.14, A/E = 1.36). The last two qualifiers who were having their second run for the yard were both successful (5-2 and 13-8).
