Andrew Mount returns with his best horse racing tips for Friday 5 December 2025, which features his best bets from Exeter‘s National Hunt card.
Five race meetings take place on Friday with day 1 of the Tingle Creek meeting taking place at Sandown, but our top tipster heads to the West Country for his best bets of the day. Here are Thursday’s tips by Andrew Mount.
Exeter Racing Tips (Friday 5 December 2025)
A competitive seven-race card gets under way at Exeter at 12.13pm and Andrew’s tips come in the 1.58pm and 2.33pm contests.
1.58 Exeter -Donnacha (1pt win – 4/1 Sky Bet, Paddy Power, 7/2 generally)
Donnacha’s form split by official going looks like this…
Good or faster: no runs
Good to soft: 3331234 (1-7)
Soft: 4312113 (3-7)
Heavy: 01 (1-2)
If we use Proform’s going description it looks like this…
Firm: 4 (0-1)
Good: 3333 (0-4)
Good to soft: 343 (0-3)
Soft: 12021 (2-5)
Heavy: 111 (3-3)
…suggesting an even strong preference for deep ground.
His form on ground with a Proform going adjustment of -3.85 or lower reads 121111 (5-6), with the sole defeat a 12-1 second of 17 behind Impose Toi (rated just 121 at the time but on 153 prior to last week’s Grade 2 win over Strong Leader at Newbury). There was plenty of rain in the Exeter area yesterday and more is due to fall before post time, making him a worthwhile bet in this 2m3f handicap chase. Nigel Hawke’s seven-year-old shaped well after a 261-day absence on unsuitably quick going at Ffos Last on his comeback in late October and has form figures of 211 (2-3) at today’s venue.
2.33 Exeter – Clear Storm (0.5pt e/w – 5/1 generally with the firms paying four places)
I want to oppose Jack Hoola in this 2m2.5f handicap hurdle as he may have been flattered by racing wide on the better ground when scoring at Southwell three weeks ago. I’m going to side with Neil Mulholland’s Clear Storm, who won the farcical amateur riders’ handicap hurdle at Plumpton last month where several runners pulled up because they mistakenly thought there was a false start (the flag being waved was the one to advise the jockeys to go around the dolled off first hurdle). It’s tempting to conclude that the four-year-old was flattered but she scored by 11 lengths and the race is working out well, with two winners (8-1 and 6-4), two seconds (18-1 and 11-1) and a third (14-1) from six subsequent runs. The filly’s five other starts for her current handler produced four placed efforts (fell in the other when booked for second place) and she could be hard to keep out of the first three.
