More than 40 races take place on Thursday, making it the busiest racing day of the week so far for punters. They occur across six tracks in Britain and Ireland from 2-9pm.
Andrew Mount is on hand with his Thursday tips as the weekend nears. He has a selection each from Ffos Las and Carlisle.
Ffos Las Racing Tips (Thursday 27 August 2026)
Andrew has a best bet in the opening race of Wales’ sole Thursday meeting, which takes place at Ffos Las.
2.37 Ffos Las – Rhodes Runner (1pt win – 3/1 bet365, William Hill)
The stands’ side rail looked to be riding ‘dead’ at Doncaster’s meeting on July 23rd where those who challenged wide down the middle of the track were favoured on the straight course. Those rail runners who caught the eye included Rhodes Runner, fourth in the 6.5f Class 4 nursery, on his first start in a turf handicap. Ralph Beckett’s filly could only finish a 20-1 sixth of seven in another Class 4 nursery at Newmarket next time but ran into another track bias, again racing down the near side when the far side was favoured. She drops down to Class 5 level at Ffos Las today and, provided she doesn’t get into an early pace war with Downonmainstreet, who made all at Chepstow last time, she looks set to run a big race.
Carlisle Racing Tips (Thursday 27 August 2026)
Seven races take place in the north west at Carlisle on Thursday. Andrew’s tip on the card comes in race five.
4.00 Carlisle – Never Dark (1pt win – 8/1 William Hill, 15/2 bet365)
Never Dark hasn’t won for a while but he could be in receipt of an easy lead in this 5f Class 6 handicap and last week’s two-length Hamilton sixth suggested that there were more races in him. Iain Jardine’s veteran could have done with a smaller field – his nine wins have come in fields of ten or fewer runners – but his stall 12 of 13 draw (adjusted for the non-runner) should ensure that he receives plenty of room on the stands’ side, which is usually the place to be when there’s cut in the ground at Carlisle. His record in 5f handicaps, when he’s had a run in the last 90 days and when ranked in the top six on Proform’s last-time out speed figures (fifth best today) stands at nine wins from 39 runs for a profit of £19.08 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£25.46 at Betfair SP after 2% commission, expected wins = 4.72, A/E = 1.91). He often runs well at this time of year, handles slow ground and has form over course and distance.
