Three meetings take place on Sunday, but two of those feature Graded races. It is among the more intriguing Sundays of National Hunt racing in the calendar.
At those two meetings from Fontwell and Naas, GG tipster Joe Napier gives our GG Lucky 15 tips for Sunday.
Fontwell Racing Tips (Sunday 22 February)
Fontwell’s card features the Grade 2 National Spirit Hurdle. Our two top tips run elsewhere though, in a pair of class 4 handicaps.
3.20 Fontwell – Paso Doble (1pt win – )
Bollin Thou is on a five-timer but can be denied by top-weight Paso Doble here. Paul Nicholls’ runner blew up last time at Kempton, but that was in a highly competitive race. Previously, he had form figures of 132 this season and is back down to a mark of 120. That is just 2lb above the rating he won off at this track to begin the campaign. With Jay Tidball taking off 5lb and this representing a drop in class in just a four-runner field, he may have too much class.
4.20 Fontwell – The Boss Bear (1pt win – )
This looks a good spot for handicap debutant The Boss Bear. Gary & Josh Moore dominate with half the field and it is Tom Cannon’s mount preferred of their trio. The six-year-old won a bumper and a maiden hurdle in 2025 and is yet to finish outside the top two under rules. He was well-beaten at Fakenham last time, but still beat two well-regarded types that day. He must have been showing his training duo good signs to be turned out just nine days later. With his mark lenient and the drop back to 2m1½f a potential plus, he can win for the third time.
Naas Racing Tips (Sunday 22 February)
Graded, Listed and Pertemps qualifier action ensures Naas’ Sunday card is one to watch out for. Our two best bets could still have their eyes on a tilt at Cheltenham.
3.30 Naas – Melbourne Shamrock (1pt win – 6/4)
With main market rival Well Del having raced just four days previously, Melbourne Shamrock should win this. Emmet Mullins’ charge will have to run well to make the Pertemps Final field off the back of this qualifier. He should be capable of doing so, having run well in all three novice and maiden events this term. Broadly, his form looks rock solid considering his opening rating of 121 for handicaps. Anything but a strong showing may not be enough to book his Cheltenham ticket, and his in-form yard will be well aware of that.
4.30 Naas – Touch Me Not (1pt win – 4/1)
He has work to do on Official Ratings, but Touch Me Not may be the solid option in this Grade 3. He concedes a 9lb penalty to all here, but has twice run well in fiercely competitive handicaps off sizeable enough weights this season having disappointed in a Grade 2 after a break. Soft ground over 2m is his ideal, but he has not enjoyed those conditions since December 2024. That day he was second in the Grade 1 Henry VIII Novices’ Chase, having won a Grade 2 directly prior. With Blood Destiny needing to bounce back and Captain Guinness advancing in years, the selection looks the value.
