The final day of the Galway Festival takes place on Sunday after a hugely entertaining week of racing in Ireland. Sunday’s card features another set of top-class flat and jumps contests.
Joe Napier picks out our lucky 15 selections to conclude the week, with all four tips on the day coming from Galway.
Galway Racing Tips (Sunday 2 August)
Eight races conclude the festival at Galway on Sunday, with all four of our lucky 15 tips for the afternoon competing at the meeting.
2.20 Galway – Justatan (1pt win – )
After a respectable comeback at Sligo, Justatan may now be primed for Emmet Mullins. The seven-year-old sneaks in right at the foot of the weights for this 3m½f handicap. His runs in 2025/26 were all between 2m-2m3f and he struggled to get too competitive, though did finish third in a Clonmel maiden in December. He is a two-time point-to-point winner over 3m though and while his Sligo run was only modest, finishing 17 lengths behind the winner, it was a decent effort without getting competitive. That was his first race for 168 days, so he should come on for it. There is every chance this race was the target after that run and he is expected to improve plenty.
3.30 Galway – Coming Up Easy (1pt win – )
He has not been the easiest to catch right but Coming Up Easy looks up to winning this if near his best. The presence of Blood Destiny means almost half the field are out of the weights which helps those towards the top. Coming Up Easy is rated 140 having won three races in a row in 2025. He was subsequently pulled up at Cheltenham, then down the field in the Topham Chase over the Grand National fences. Henry De Bromhead’s charge has dropped 2lb since then though, seeing him 8lb above his last winning mark. The way he won at Killarney last August was impressive though and quicker ground evidently suits. This should be his best run for some time given his yard’s runners are almost all going well this week.
4.00 Galway – City House (1pt win – )
He is on a long losing run, but City House has now dropped to too tempting a mark to ignore. There have been some solid efforts since he joined Adrian McGuinness in January. Notably, he has been second off a rating of 96 at Dundalk, with close fourths at Chester and Cork since. Both of those were off at least 2lb higher than today’s mark of 92, which he fell to after being uncompetitive over 6f at the Curragh. However, he clearly sees out 7f well, winning over this trip in Bahrain last January. The five-year-old is closing in on winning the right race and this might be the day.
5.00 Galway – Blue Blue Moon (1pt win – )
Johnny Murtagh earned a much-needed winner at this meeting and Blue Blue Moon can be another. In the famous Moyglare Stud colours, she has been down the field in all three starts to date. However, it is noteworthy that she made her debut in Listed company, while she has excuses for two runs since. In the first, soft-to-heavy ground may not have suited at the Curragh, while the 1m4f trip at Leopardstown was worth exploring earlier this month, but was likely too far for her. Her initial rating of 74 owes much to her Listed run. She could easily be capable of defying it under these conditions though, with the 1m½f trip more suitable, as well as the going.
