Day four of York’s Ebor Festival takes place on Saturday 23rd August and the Ebor Handicap is the standout race of the day and looks a hugely competitive betting heat. Our GG tipster Steve Chambers has taken a look through the form guides and picks out his best bet for the final day’s racing on the Knavesmire.

2.25 York – TARRIANCE (1pt win – 7/2 generally)
Just touched off when short odds for a Doncaster novice stakes back in June, TARRIANCE bounced back to form when winning a shade cosily at Sandown Park and the son of Frankel can continue his progression for Andrew Balding on Saturday and claim victory in the Melrose Handicap at 2.25pm. He’s been given a 4lbs rise by the handicapper for that success, but the attractively bred three-year-old certainly relished the step up to 1m 6f and the test of this contest will certainly bring his stamina to the fore here. Plenty come here in the form of their life, but Tarriance looks an upwardly mobile colt that could be potentially contesting Group contests over marathon trips later in his career.
3.00 York – LAKE FOREST (1pt e/w – 10-1 generally)
Top class miler Rosallion could prove to be a real cut above his rivals in the Group 1 City Of York Stakes, but Richard Hannon’s raider could just find himself a little bit off the pace and may be unable to reel in the leaders, so is worth taking on. LAKE FOREST has been on a long losing run, but he showed when winning the Gimcrack Stakes at York as a two-year-old that he can deliver the goods at York and the No Nay Never showed his best last time out when second in the Lennox Stakes at Goodwood. He’s one that will relish this seven furlong trip, and if he can build on his last run then he could well be a potential springer in the field and looks terrific each-way value at double-figured odds.
3.35 York – MAJESTIC WARRIOR (1pt e/w – 16/1 Ladbrokes, BetVictor – five places or 14/1 bet365 – six places)
Willie Mullins will saddle a strong pair at the head of the betting in the shape of Hipop De Laire and Ethical Diamond, who both look huge players in the Ebor Handicap at 3.35pm, but with some bookmakers paying six places in the each-way market then it could be worth looking for a value alternative. A four-length winner at Thirsk last time out, MAJESTIC WARRIOR only has four races under his belt, but looks extremely unexposed and has the potential to continue his improve for James Tate. He’s been given a whopping 9lbs rise for his most recent win, which came over 1m 4f, but he scorched through the line that day to suggest he could be a real classy stayer. The step up in trip should suit and having won three of his four career starts he has shown he can deliver on the big stage and with 16/1 (5 places) and 14/1 (6 places) available then he’s the selection in a thriller.
