1.50 Doncaster – JEL PEPPER (1pt win – 4/1 Ladbrokes)
Oliver Cole’s JEL PEPPER was ahead of Brussels when the pair last locked horns at Newmarket in the July Stakes. Now, the pair do battle again, but not at Group 2 level, but in a valuable sales race at 1.50pm at Doncaster on Thursday afternoon. Cole’s youngster will be in receipt of 10lbs for this contest, so should be able to frank the form with Aidan O’Brien’s son of Wootton Bassett and the pair can dominate this contest from the outset. Both towards the head of the market, it’s Jel Pepper that certainly makes most appeal and is an attractive betting proposition in a competitive-looking betting heat.
3.18 Epsom Downs – DANCINGWITHMYSELF (1pt win – 9/1 bet365)
A fascinating renewal of the Sash & Dash By Quickslide Jump Jockeys Derby Handicap will take place at Epsom Downs at 3.18pm and it’s one of the stars of the National Hunt weighing room that can sparkle in the shape of Harry Cobden. Teaming up with Michael Bell with DANCINGWITHMYSELF, Cobden can cajole his mount into contention from a likely slow start and off top weight can storm to victory. Sure to be held up from stall 10, Cobden can stalk his rivals in behind before unleashing a late run in the closing stages and dropping back to class 4, where her last win came, the four-year-old filly can land this prize with aplomb.
4.10 Doncaster – MR WRITER (1pt win – 9/2 Betfred)
Winless in his three career starts, MR WRITER will step into nursery company for the 4.10pm at Doncaster and an initial handicap mark of 78 certainly looks workable, and with Oisin Murphy an eye-catching jockey booking then James Fanshawe’s youngster is certainly worth keeping an eye on. Eighth at Leicester on debut, he kicked on considerably next time out when second at Kempton before finishing fifth at Newbury on his last outing. The win that day was the classy Gewan, who has since gone on to win the Group 3 Acomb Stakes at York, so the form is top notch and off a lowly mark Mr Writer looks to have the potential to feature prominently in a race full of potential.
