3.00 York – CERULEAN BAY (1pt e/w – 25/1 bet365)
David O’Meara’s CERULEAN BAY struggled last season, but appeared to be back firing on all cylinders last time out when second at Ascot and the four-year-old can build on that effort and go close at huge odds in the Clipper Handicap at 3.00pm contest. That runner-up finish came in the Shergar Cup Mile, which was a competitive contest, and having only been given a 1lb rise by the handicapper then he could have the potential to make the frame at the very least off a mark of 93. Oisin Murphy is an eye-catching jockey booking, and while the likes of Bullet Point and Remmooz look classy handicappers at the top of the betting, Cerulean Bay could be one that shocks a few and is the value play.
4.10 York – BUTTERFLY WINGS (1pt win – 7-1 generally)
Narrowly beaten in a Listed contest at York last time out, Rainbows Edge and Charlotte’s Web will return to the scene of that defeat and try and claim victory on this occasion and they are well fancied to land the Galtres Stakes at 4.10pm. However, that pair could come unstuck to Aidan O’Brien’s BUTTERFLY WINGS, who was last seen finishing fourth in the Irish Oaks at the Curragh and will now drop back in grade for this contest. Beaten about eight lengths that day, the daughter of Justify is sure to find this level much easier and with a slight drop back in trip sure to aid the former Leopardstown maiden winner then she could well claim the prize on Thursday.
5.20 York – DASH OF AZURE (1pt win – 10/1 William Hill)
Fifth in the Sandringham Stakes at Royal Ascot, DASH OF AZURE failed to figure at Goodwood on her last start when struggling to settle and she had to settle for 7th place of 12 in that contest. However, she drops back from a mile to seven furlongs for the final race of the day and having been victorious on her last outing over the trip at Kempton Park then she looks more than capable of going in again here. She is 6lbs higher for this contest, so will need a career best, but she showed she can sparkle in a big field at the Royal meeting last time out and looks an eye-catching double-figured price, at the time of writing.
