4.37 Haydock – HOT FLAME (1pt win – 5/2 Hills)
Plenty of rain is forecast to hit Haydock in advance of their Thursday meeting. That could spell trouble for Consecrated despite the excellent form of the Haggas yard, with her fellow three-year-olds HOT FLAME and Music Piece both having form on ground with soft in the going description. With the latter in questionable form it is John & Thady Gosden’s Hot Flame who is preferred, with her unexposed profile another potential plus. Her debut form when winning at Yarmouth last season looks fairly sturdy, especially as she ran green, while there was no disgrace in losing under a penalty after 298 days off last month. An opening mark of 89 is fair and she is related to plenty of stayers over further, which should ensure testing conditions play even more to her strengths over this 1m2f trip.
6.10 Laytown – COLUGO (0.5pt e/w – 25/1 bet365)
Gordon Elliott and Joseph O’Brien both send representatives for this maiden, but neither of the runners for their high profile stables look to be ideally suited by 7f, while Ocean Manfiest, the other potential form angle, has never run on any all-weather to potentially prepare for the beach at Laytown. As such, with a similar profile to last year’s winner, COLUGO looks interesting for Ian Patrick Donoghue, who has had two winners from his last six runners over jumps and may have a decent one lined up for the flat here. The four-year-old has something to find on ratings, but he is officially rated a stone higher on the all-weather and did not run at all badly on turf for his new yard in early August. The 2024 winner Roman Harry also boasted a turf rating in the 50s, but his only all-weather run had also been his best, just like the selections pair of efforts at Dundalk earlier in 2025, so he could well prove to be a value angle, with this trip perfectly fine for him.
6.20 Lingfield – ALMATY STAR (1pt e/w – 13/2 Hills)
As one of only two course and distance winners in the line-up, and having finished second in the corresponding race 12 months ago, ALMATY STAR could well go one better off just 1lb higher for Robert Cowell this time around. The five-year-old has a superb all-weather record, finishing in the top three on 12 of his 14 starts on such a surface, winning three of those, including off 2lb higher at Wolverhampton earlier this season. This mark is demonstrably within his range in terms of winning and recent efforts on quick turf going at Newmarket and Newbury are not perceived to be a concern. His most recent two successes have come under today’s jockey in Hollie Doyle too.
