2.25 Goodwood – AYLIN (1pt win – 11/2 William Hill)
This juvenile Group 3 can go to impressive recent novice winner AYLIN. A scorer at Glorious Goodwood over this course and distance, that race ended up being run on heavy ground, but she came clear to win nicely by just under three lengths and she had been a short-head second on good ground on her debut, suggesting she will be fine under these conditions. The third, fifth and sixth have done wonders for the form since, while the seventh had been a much closer runner-up behind this race’s favourite Moon Target. That collateral form makes Aylin the one to beat if anything, yet she is available at a cracking price currently.
3.00 Goodwood – JAKAJARO (1pt win – 4-1 generally)
Given he ran such a big race in the Stewards’ Cup from a near hopeless position, JAKAJARO should really be favourite for this 6f handicap over the same track and trip. Robert Cowell’s charge has raced only in double-figure fields this season, with most of the contests he has participated in being very hot races, the 27-runner Stewards’ Cup being just one of them. He was well behind under a typical Jamie Spencer ride, but while his chance of winning was likely limited given there was an impressive winner, he shot home in the manner of a horse appreciating the step back up to 6f from 5f and a 1lb rise for filling the frame in such a competitive race is more than fair. He should be ready to win this one.
3.35 Goodwood – ARISAIG (0.5pt e/w – 12/1 Betfred – three places or 14/1 generally – two places)
The 7f Lennox Stakes proved to be a trappy, tactical contest, with no horse held up able to make inroads on the lead, but it nevertheless a concern for Jonquil that he made such little impression at this track that day. Against him, a mare who excels at this venue is ARISAIG, who can be backed with two or three places in mind in this seven-strong line-up. Charlie Johnston’s charge won a handicap over course and distance on her first start here, then finished a luckless fifth in Listed company earlier this campaign when getting absolutely no run. She still finished only two lengths adrift of the winner, Crimson Advocate, who has since won a Group 2 and placed in a Group 1, so the selection likely reached a level of form she has not been capable of elsewhere, and one which would see her have more than a fighting each-way chance in this race.
