1.55 Haydock – CONTACTO (1pt win – 3/1 generally)
Ed Bethell’s Coedana is hugely progressive and heads into the 1.55pm on the back of fine wins at Southwell and Newcastle. She will have to deal with another whopping 8lbs rise in the handicap and a mark of 88 could be beyond her, so opt to follow the top-weighted Andrew Balding-trained CONTACTO, who could outclass the field here. Ninth in the Old Borough Cup two starts ago, he showed much better form on his last outing when second at Haydock. Returning to the same venue again off a mark of 85, he’s certainly going to find this easier than the Old Borough Cup and he can duly bound to victory in an intriguing opening race.
3.05 Haydock – ANGEL HUNTER (1pt win – 4/1 generally)
Richard Hannon’s ANGEL HUNTER was an impressive winner at Ascot on his last start and he looks capable of defying a 4lbs rise and claiming victory in the 3.05pm at Haydock. Held up in rear that day, he showed a fine turn of foot to kick over a length clear of his rivals and he could be more than capable of doing the same again here. There should be a decent pace on from the outset here, and while he will have a lively rival in the shape of Eternal Force, who is bidding for a third win, Angel Hunter can make it back-to-back wins.
3.32 Uttoxeter – MINELLA RESCUE (1pt win – 3/1 Paddy Power)
Third in the Arkle Trial at Cheltenham back in November, Lookaway is likely to be using the 3.32pm handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter as a prep run for bigger races over fences later on in the season, so it’s worth taking him on with MINELLA RESCUE, who will have the burden of top weight. A winner at Uttoxeter over a slightly shorter trip three starts ago, Gary Hanmer’s consistent performer was then second on his next outing. Seen in listed company on the Flat last time out, where he was last of six, the seven-year-old will relish a return to the jumping sphere and a mark of 139 looks well within his capabilities of maintaining his fine recent record at the track.
4.50 Haydock – KINSWOMAN (1pt win – 2/1 generally)
Back-to-back wins in August at Windsor and Chester saw KINSWOMAN head to a competitive York handicap in the form of her life, and she was just denied off a career high mark of 85. The William Haggas-trained daughter of Mehmas will now look to get back on the winning thread in the 4.50pm at Haydock, and having been kept on the same mark for Friday’s contest then she can duly storm to victory again. Not out the first four in all eight career starts she’s shown to be a real class act, and she has a lot more potential than most of her rivals here and she can end the day on a winning note.
