Six horse racing fixtures take place on Friday 21st November, but we focus our attentions on Ascot and Chepstow and provide our GG Lucky 15 tips for the action at those two National Hunt meetings…
1.34 Chepstow – BEN SOLO (1pt win – 7/1 bet365)
Several of these runners at the head of the market have been off the track for a long time, so could need the run in the 1.34pm at Chepstow. However, the Rebecca Curtis-trained BEN SOLO lines up on the back of a fifth placed finish at the track earlier this month, and he should strip fitter for those exertions. That came over an inadequate trip of two miles, so a step back up in distance for Friday’s race should improve his chances. He’s also been dropped 2lbs by the handicapper, so the former course winner can land this prize off a mark of 117.
2.00 Ascot – LORD BADDESLEY (1pt win – 7/2 generally)
A facile 18-length winner of a three-runner Newbury event last time out, LORD BADDESLEY looked to be in fine fettle and despite a 7lbs rise for that victory he could still be capable of going in again in the 2.00pm at Ascot. The favourite that day Outlaw Peter certainly disappointed, but Lord Baddesley jumped with real panache that day, and could be tough to pass, if he can get on the front again. Prior to that win he had been given a wind op which may have brought on the improvement and he could be capable of making it back-to-back wins.
2.35 Ascot – FORTUNE DE MER (1pt win – 13/8 Ladbrokes)
Having drifted in the market in the lead up to his Grade 2 Sharp Novices’ Hurdle win at Cheltenham last month, FORTUNE DE MER rocketed home up a sublime Harry Skelton ride to land that prize in style. Now, he steps into handicap company for his next outing and Dan Skelton’s charge can prove to be a cut above his rivals in the 2.35pm at Ascot. Taking on some battle-hardened campaigners here off a mark of 124, the five-year-old will face a stern rival in the shape of Moveit Like Minnie, but the Skelton charge certainly has the capabilities of improving on his mark this season, and he could well use this a stepping stone to bigger and better things in the spring.
3.10 Ascot – SAFE DESTINATION (1pt win – 4/1 generally)
Out of the first two in only two of his last 11 starts, SAFE DESTINATION has been a real model of consistency in recent times and he can continue that fine record with victory in the 3.10pm at Ascot. A winner at Chepstow two outings ago, he followed that up seven days later with a second placed finish at Kempton, and while he’s 5lbs higher here he’s one that will put up a bold bid for victory. This is a career high mark, but he should relish the trip and ground and looks a solid bet in a trappy betting heat for punters.
