2.12 Brighton – JOYCEAN WAY (1pt win – 9/2 generally)
Winless in 12 starts, JOYCEAN WAY has run some fine efforts in defeat and looks capable of defying top weight in the 2.12pm at Brighton on Monday afternoon. Proven in soft going, the Gary & Josh Moore-trained four-year-old disappointed at Goodwood last time out, but had previously ran well at Yarmouth, Leicester and Windsor. Those good runs came at class 6 level and it’s that level he returns to today and with Tyrese Cameron in the saddle looks a lively player.
3.42 Brighton – FIGHTING POET (1pt win – 6/1 generally)
A three times winner at Brighton, FIGHTING POET is looking to continue and build on a fine record at the south coast track and the Richard Phillips-trained runner looks a leading contender for the 3.42pm race. He has won over today’s trip at the track and was mightily-impressive when winning by three-and-a-quarter lengths here last month, so he is the one to beat. He is 4lbs higher for this contest, but is capable of delivering the goods off a mark of 53.
4.00 Worcester – FAITQUE DE L’ISLE (1pt win – 11/2 generally)
A multiple winner over fences, FAITQUE DE L’ISLE returns to hurdles for the first time in four years, but could be capable of winning the 4.00pm at Windsor. The ten-year-old notched up a brace of wins at Ludlow back in February and having had a few months off put in a decent display at Worcester at the end of August. Sure to strip fitter for that outing, he could improve for that run a few weeks ago and get his head in front again.
4.20 Thirsk – MAMMA MARIA (1pt win – 5/2 bet365)
Having narrowly won a Ffos Las contest by a neck last month, MAMMA MARIA then followed up at Salisbury with another victory, but duly lost the race in the stewards’ room in the aftermath of the contest. The William Haggas-trained filly has been upped another 2lbs rise, but she still looks to be open to some improvement and a mark of 69 looks well within her capabilities, and she’s entitled to be favourite for today’s event.
