1.32 Chepstow – MY GIFT TO YOU (1pt win – )
Five winners from his last eight runners across both codes is a strong resurgence by James Owen’s team and their charge in the opener, MY GIFT TO YOU can get them off to a fast start at Chepstow on Sunday. The seven-year-old possesses guaranteed stamina for this trip having scored over 3m2f over hurdles last time and is only 4lb higher for winning at Worcester back in July. Alex Chadwick has won on three of his 13 rides for Owen, as well as on his only ride at this track and with fellow form angle Hold Your Fort under a welter burden of 12st 7lb, the selection looks more reliable.
3.10 Naas – ABLOOM (1pt win – )
With Swelter not having been seen since down the field in the Irish 1000 Guineas and Fiery Lucy so difficult to win with, a British raider could claim this Listed race courtesy of the in-form ABLOOM for William Haggas. The daughter of Night Of Thunder only made her debut in May, learning slowly but really hitting her stride of late, scoring by just over three lengths at Ripon, then on handicap debut at Ascot last month. The third had beaten her comfortably in a Chester maiden earlier in the campaign, which demonstrates the nature of Abloom’s improvement throughout the campaign and connections’ sights are reasonably set higher here. There is almost certainly much more to come.
3.17 Chepstow – TUTTI QUANTI (1pt win – 4/1 Betfair/Paddy Power)
Sixth in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle last season, TUTTI QUANTI was heading firmly in the right direction to conclude 2024-25. Paul Nicholls’ charge may have earned that position through beaten horses, but he is clearly well-regarded to have even run in that Cheltenham Festival contest, while he backed up those regards with a 13-length victory to end his novice campaign. A mark of 132 looks like one he can build on thoroughly and while pure good ground would be a slight unknown, both of his wins have been on good-to-soft. With the Nicholls yard in grand form throughout the summer and early autumn, he can provide them with yet another winner.
3.45 Naas – IT’S A HEARTBEAT (1pt win – )
Despite the deep field numerically, this Listed contest may not take a great deal of winning given that the consistent but unspectacular Island Hopping is the highest-rated. Already second on ratings is IT’S A HEARTBEAT, who has won two of her three starts for John O’Donoghue in her short career so far. She is well-related, as well as excellently-named, so although she went off at 50/1 on debut, she has swiftly proven her talent. Even in that debut she finished fourth, beaten under three lengths, but having won by 2½ lengths at the Curragh in June, she put nearly four lengths between herself and the runner-up two months later on handicap debut off a mark of 89. The second that day won a 21-runner Premier handicap next time out, suggesting the selection is more than capable in this line-up.
