2.16 Kempton – ISKAR D’AIRY (1pt win – 2/1 generally)
Jamie Snowden’s Obsessedwithyou lines up in the 2.16pm at Kempton Park on the back of a comfortable win at Sedgefield 11 days ago, but with a 6lbs rise in the handicap and a quick turnaround he could be vulnerable to the returning ISKAR D’AIRY, who can land this prize for Gary & Josh Moore. A winner of three of his last four races, the seven-year-old was last seen bounding to a five-length win at Stratford in May, and he now will look to continue his winning ways on Sunday. Upped 7lbs by the handicapper, he will have a mark of 111 to defy here, but shaped like there could be more to come and with ground conditions likely to suit then he can get us off to a winning start.
2.25 Leopardstown – SERENGETI (1pt win – 16/1 Paddy Power)
Aidan O’Brien’s SERENGETI has been utilised as the Ballydoyle pacemaker for some of the yard’s big guns this season, so you can ignore his form in both the Group 1 Sussex Stakes and Prix du Moulin. However, he showed when returning to calmer handicap waters last time out that he has significant ability in his own right by winning a Naas handicap. An excellent winner that day, he’s been given his chance in listed company in the 2.25pm at Leopardstown, and if he can kick on from that Naas win then there’s nothing to suggest he couldn’t be capable of causing a stir again and recording two wins on the bounce.
3.16 Kempton – RARE EDITION (1pt win – 9/4 generally)
Charlie Longsdon may have been a little disappointed on what RARE EDITION produced over fences last season, but the eight-year-old can hit the ground running on Sunday and kick off his campaign with a win in the 3.16pm contest. A winner on his chase debut, he was then handed the task of trying to land Grade 2 glory in the Noel Novices’ Chase at Ascot, but he could only finish last of four. A faller on his last outing over fences, he will have been given lots of jumping practice at home and he can bounce back here. He will receive weight from big rival Bad here, and if he can get into a rhythm over his fences then he could well prove to be better than his current mark of 135 in what is an intriguing event.
3.26 Leopardstown – SHACKLETON (1pt win – 8/1 generally)
Aidan O’Brien will unleash a three-pronged attack on the listed Trigo Stakes at 3.26pm and while Acapulco Bay and Edward Hamilton are worthy of their places in the line-up it’s SHACKLETON that is the one to side with. Well fancied for the Queen’s Vase over 1m 6f at Royal Ascot, he failed to land a blow and was fourth, while he was last seen finishing down the field in the Irish Cesarewitch Handicap over 2m. Dropping significantly in trip here, he could well improve for that drop to 1m 2f, as he’s winning form over a furlong less, so it could be the drop in distance that sees him return to the winner’s enclosure.
