Four National Hunt fixtures take place in the UK & Ireland on Sunday 23rd November, but our GG Lucky 15 for the day focuses on the top quality action at Punchestown, whilst we also have a selection at Exeter. Check out our best bets for the day here…
1.17 Punchestown – BABY KATE (1pt win – 10/1 generally)
Paul Nolan’s Feet Of A Dancer is a leading fancy for the Listed Frontline Security Grabel Mares Hurdle at 1.17pm, but she could prove vulnerable to the Willie Mullins-trained pair in the shape of Baby Kate and Fun Fun Fun. The stable won this 12 months ago and it could be the former in the shape of BABY KATE that can land the prize on Sunday afternoon. The lightly-raced mare was last seen finishing down the field in Fairyhouse last January, but she has shown promise over hurdles and could be one that improves for racing this season. She will need to post a career best to land this contest, but has the potential to fly up the ranks this campaign and is the selection in an intriguing renewal.
2.27 Punchestown – RELIEVED OF DUTIES (1pt win – 8/1 Sky Bet/Paddy Power)
A winner on chasing debut at Fairyhouse, Gordon Elliott’s RELIEVED OF DUTIES then followed that up with a decent second in a quality contest at Cheltenham last month. Now, the Cullentra House inmate will attempt to return to winning ways in the Grade 2 Craddockstown Novice Chase at Punchestown at 2.27pm and looks capable of landing the win. The likes of last-time-out winners Fleur In The Park and Westport Cove are entitled to be towards the head of the betting, but Relieved Of Duties could be the value play. Elliott won the race with an outsider in Touch Me Not last season, and his six-year-old gelding could have a vital bit of experience that could stand him in good stead to get his head in front.
2.36 Exeter – KING CALIFET (1pt win – 9/2 generally)
Second in a point-to-point, KING CALIFET has only been seen a few times over hurdles and he was last seen finishing fourth of five at Sandown Park off a mark of 114. Emma Lavelle’s six-year-old will now make his first chasing start at Exeter in the 2.36pm and he looks like he could be one that relishes the switch to fences. He was held up in that last contest, but Ben Jones could opt to ride him a bit more forward here, and if he can take to the chasing game then he could be dangerously handicapped off his current mark.
3.00 Punchestown – FACT TO FILE (1pt win – 11/8 bet365)
A fine winner of the John Durkan Memorial Chase last season, FACT TO FILE can duly dominate this year’s Grade 1 renewal at Punchestown at 3.00pm and cement his place as one of the leading staying chasers in Ireland. Imperious when cruising to victory in the Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, the Willie Mullins-trained multiple Graded winner then struggled at Punchestown over a shorter trip, but stepped back up in trip he can down the likes of Gaelic Warrior and Gold Cup hero Inothewayurthinkin, who will both be using this as a stepping stone to bigger things later in the season.
