1.32 Carlisle – APPLE AWAY (1pt win – 7/2 Paddy Power)

Prolific for Lucy Wadham, Telepathique is entitled to be well-fancied for the Listed PricedUp.Bet Houghton Mares’ Chase at Carlisle at 1.32pm, but she could be vulnerable to a classy operator in the shape of Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore’s APPLE AWAY, who can dominate this contest on Sunday afternoon. A winner in this sphere already in her career, she was last seen pulling up in the Midlands Grand National, but a drop back in trip here should see her in a much better light. The eight-year-old mare is a hugely consistent performer and if she can get into a good jumping rhythm then she can saunter clear of Wadham’s charge in the closing stages.

2.02 Carlisle – NURSE SUSAN (1pt win – 9/2 Paddy Power)

Dan Skelton’s NURSE SUSAN finished in the mid-division in the Martin Pipe at the Cheltenham Festival, but she failed to build on that effort when down the field in a competitive Ayr handicap hurdle on her last outing. The eight-year-old has been dropped 2lbs by the handicapper for that run and takes her chance in the 2.02pm at Carlisle off a mark of 130. A winner off a 1lb lower mark at Lingfield back in January 2024, she has often showed her best form in the first half of the season, so could be worth taking a chance on here in what is a hugely competitive betting heat.

2.55 Huntingdon – PURE CARBON (1pt win – )

No Risk With Lou won this race 12 months ago off a 3lbs lower mark, so has to be respected at the top of the weights, but it’s one in the lower echelons of the handicap that can claim the prize with Harry Derham’s PURE CARBON picking up a first victory. Despite not getting his head in front so far the six-year-old has been placed in three of his seven career starts, so has run to a decent level, albeit in weak company. Second last time out at Chepstow, he’s been kept on the same mark of 109 for this event and if he can build on that run then he has every chance of breaking his duck.

3.12 Carlisle – GALIA DES LITEAUX (1pt win – )

Having won this race before going to claim victory in the Welsh Grand National, Val Dancer is back to try and emulate that fine double again this year, but now 11lbs higher than the mark he won this race off last year then the dour stayer could be vulnerable. On the contrary, GALIA DES LITEAUX has been plummeting down the handicap and a mark of 135 on Sunday means she has a great chance of landing the spoils for Dan Skelton. Pulled up in the Midlands Grand National on her last outing, she’s often struggled with the extreme distances, so a drop back from four miles here should see her in a better light. A former listed winner, at her best, she has to be a huge player if she can bounce back to form following her summer break.
