Three jumps meetings take place in Britain and Ireland on Thursday and our GG Lucky 15 top tips on the day include selections from all three, courtesy of our in-house tipster Joe Napier.
12.10 Market Rasen – KINGS CHAMPION (1pt win – 4/1 bet365)
Switched to Olly Murphy from Paul Nicholls, KINGS CHAMPION can land the Market Rasen opener on Thursday. An expensive three-year-old purchase by Tom Malone, he is from good French jumping stock, but made only one appearance for Nicholls and belatedly so, when third of ten in a Ffos Las bumper back in April. The winner that day was also trained by Murphy and already had two rules races’ worth of experience, but has proven a useful enough horse, winning on his hurdling debut at Chepstow earlier this month. Champion jockey Sean Bowen is aboard and Kings Champion has significant promise, as well as the potential to improve for the switch to Murphy’s operation.
1.48 Market Rasen – I AM ROCCO (1pt win – 3/1 bet365)
Murphy and Bowen are also represented by Pescatorius, but his recent victory came in just a four-runner race and has led to a 7lb hop in the weights. He is also right back in trip here, so is worth taking on with the consistent I AM ROCCO, who has finished second to two handicap blots the last twice. The first of those, Shantou Lucky, has won twice more since and is now favourite for the Southern National on Sunday, while the latest, Grain Trade, was about to win again at Fontwell only to fall at the last. Pescatorius does not look like a horse miles ahead of the handicapper and I Am Rocco may now get his reward for running well on a regular basis.
2.34 Sedgefield – ROSES ALL THE WAY (1pt win – 4/1 bet365)
She ended up winless in bumpers but ROSES ALL THE WAY often bumped into some useful sorts of her own sex and can improve for facing obstacles being a point-to-point runner-up. Donald McCain’s six-year-old was second in a Listed bumper at Huntingdon in between two other placed efforts while only fading late on in the Grade 2 mares’ bumper at Aintree in April. That is usually a race that produces reliable form for novices going into the following season and the daughter of Workforce is related to three jumps winners in Britain and Ireland, including one for her stable.
3.18 Punchestown – YESHIL (1pt win – 15/8 Paddy Power/Sky Bet)
Vitorio Piel was reported to have been struck into after a below par hurdling bow at Punchestown last month, the track at which he had so impressively won a bumper at the course’s main festival in May. Relying on him bouncing back is not straightforward and he may have a useful enough rival against him here in YESHIL for Henry De Bromhead. The selection was second in a similar Punchestown festival bumper in 2024 before having the misfortune of bumping into Kopek Des Bordes on hurdles debut on Boxing Day last year. He showed up well for much of that race before fading and there was enough depth throughout that field to suggest he will win this sort of race before either stepping up in grade or into handicaps. Against just five rivals here, his trainer appears to have found him a decent opportunity.
